Julia Stewart, 70, a longtime restaurant group chief executive and serial entrepreneur, was passed over for a promotion - and then got the ultimate revenge. "So I went out and pretty much started with a new team, the best that I could possibly find. And to this day, most of them are good friends. But what we did was pretty remarkable," she said about her team at Applebee's. After around three years, she had managed to reshape the company and turn it successful. That led to a meeting with the former CEO and chair where she got some life-changing news. "I go in with my little graph, right? And I've got the chart going in the right direction. Stock has doubled. Life is good. Everything is going very well. I couldn't be more proud of the team. And I said, 'So I'm thinking it's about time to be CEO,'" she recalled. Continuing, Stewart said, "And he's very reflective; he stops for a minute. I'm sure it was 10 seconds. It felt like a minute and a half. And he says, 'No.' And I thought he meant, 'No, not today.' And I laughed and said, 'Well, no. I'm not suggesting today but perhaps for something you want me to showcase. Perhaps you want me to She asked why, and he told her that he "[didn't] have to have an answer." Asked how she replied, Stewart explained that she took a step back because she didn't want to react while angry. "I said, 'I'm going to excuse myself. I'm going go home early, and I'm going to reflect on this conversation, which is the only thing I could think of. And I came back the next day and said, You know, I've thought about it, and I think you're holding me accountable for everything. But you're not giving me the title so I'm going to go ahead and leave,'" she claimed. "And he said, 'Well, no. You can't leave. If you leave the stock will tank.'" Ultimately, the pair reached an agreement where Stewart "would stay for a couple months" to figure out a way to transition the team without causing financial ruin. to Afterwards, she wound up taking the job at IHOP, and she spent "a good five years" working to turn the company around. The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one.

This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.
I work as an elder and hospice caregiver, which I am oddly passionate about. I can love on them shamelessly and no one complains about my codependence. It's a win-win situation. Many of my caregiving colleagues complain about the repetitive questions and, sometimes reactions, of the elderly, especially when those patients happen to read the newspaper, especially with the current downward spiral of our country — as if these people haven't lived through enough horror... I love my dementia peeps, but sometimes wonder if there's a Guinness Book World Record for how many times an hour a dementia patient can repeat the same question — it's got to be in the hundreds. At least with small children, they ask different questions. Dementia patients will get stuck on one short question and ask it until you can interrupt their train(carousel) of thought and successfully redirect their attention. That carousel is pretty manic sometimes. A couple days ago, I picked up my mail from the post office and drove over to the nursing home to take (let's call her "Miss Daisy") Miss Daisy out for a drive. Before we took off on our road trip, to the end of The Road and back, in our landlocked little town (Juneau, Alaska), I set my copy of The Onion down in front of her. Over our two-hour excursion, tiny Miss Daisy read that front page at least a dozen times and each time she would snicker, giggle, and guffaw, then put it down on the dash board and, a minute later, discover it anew. I think it was the best afternoon of my life. We don't often hear them laugh and when they do, it's the sweetest thing you've ever heard. ... Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the really important work all of you do. You make the world a better place.

The problem is, they don't have to care anymore. Politics is more national now. So she could stand up there, poop on the floor, yell racial slur at children, eat a live puppy, then go on fox & talk about how her opponent wants to murder babies, steal your guns, hates god & she's reelected.

The Suspension Clause:

1) Doesn't allow the President to unilaterally suspend habeas, especially when Congress is in session;

2) Applies only to cases of invasion or rebellion (this is quite clearly neither); and

3) *Even then,* applies only "when the public safety may require it." (It doesn't.)

Stephen Miller says they are “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, which is only allowed when the US has been invaded or during an insurrection, which would not allow people to challenge their incarceration in court if they are arrested and detained.
