A few ways cities can use traffic signals to save lives:
▪️ Install Leading Pedestrian Intervals to make those on foot more visible
▪️ Use "rest in red" to halt reckless drivers after dark
▪️ Lower the green wave speed on high-crash corridors

Note: None of these require AI or V2X mumbo jumbo.

The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

we're living through a major, civilization-altering technological revolution and it has nothing to do with AI
Just recorded a pod on solar+storage and holy shit y'all, if you are not tracking this market on a daily basis, you have no idea how wild it is. The global average price of a battery pack fell 40% *from 2023 to 2024*. That dropped the LCOE of a solar+storage plant by 22%. In a year!

Anytime you read an article about "superintelligence" or "AGI" replace it with "the tooth fairy." We have about as much proof the tooth fairy exists.

In so doing they also construct 'tyrannical' majorities. The human and civil rights of those in the political minority are denied. According to James Madison (Federalist Paper 51), this was not supposed to occur. Madison argued that "faction (dissent) is to freedom what air is to fire."

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

This really *is* Liberation Day: The U.S. Court of International Trade this afternoon struck down Trump’s mass tariffs as unlawful. It’s a fantastic win for the rule of law, human freedom, and prosperity, and a deserved rebuke for arbitrary one-man rule over our livelihoods. /1

After months of baseless claims about “extreme levels of fraud” within Social Security, Musk's DOGE has found only 2 likely fraudulent claims out of over 110,000—that makes it a rate of .0018%.

So DOGE found virtually no fraud and made an integral American system less efficient.
Surprise! DOGE’s Hunt for Social Security Fraud Ends in Total Bust
Elon Musk and his DOGE minions wrecked the Social Security Administration for no reason at all.

Trade deficit. I have bought food from say, Chilis. They have never bought food from me.

There is a trade deficit with Chilis. I’m still doing fine.

The trade deficit argument SOUNDS compelling, but it’s a straw man with no relevancy

Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.

Just restating the simple point: President lacks the constitutional authority to close a department created by Congress. Full stop. Both the creation and on-going funding of these Depts are LAWS not suggestions. This is criminal conduct. www.wsj.com/politics/pol... via @WSJ

Secretary Linda McMahon would be directed to “take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure” based on “the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law.”

The NWS is some of the best bang-for-our-buck we get as taxpayers. Completely free, lifesaving forecasts cost us about $3 each a year and delivery at least $40 worth of benefit to each of us. That is a pretty damn good return on investment.
The NWS is already short-staffed, making it much harder for the meteorologists who do crucial work to keep us all safe. NWS mets already work long shifts at all hours of the day. We will all be less safe because of this.
Firings of probationary workers at NOAA thoughout the agency -- climate offices, yes, but also meteorologists at the National Weather Service.

There’s surely a lot of frustrating stuff about any bureaucracy—meeting with stakeholders in advance, circulating draft after draft, respecting chains of authority, getting legal to sign off, etc.—but there’s no better illustration of why it exists than Elon Musk’s month of chaotic destruction.
It is almost impossible to explain the sheer insanity of Elon Musk apparently having the capability to email the entire federal government evidently without getting approval from anyone—and, apparently, against the wishes of most Cabinet departments.
DoD guidance is out: do not respond
