as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

The federal government's dangerous escalation tactics must end.
Federal officer blasts chemical spray into vocal but nonviolent Portland protester, video shows

The interaction illustrates how federal law enforcement officers do use aggressive tactics against protesters who yell and needle officers but don’t appear to present clear physical threats.

I got a complicated relationship with Sharon. I loved her, I thought she was hilarious and fun.

She was also undeniably abusive to a lot of people over decades, inflicting her Summit Avenue House delusions on everyone she could. A 50 year temper tantrum.
Saint Paul lost a real character in Sharon Anderson, a perennial candidate and crank whose multi-fonted campaign website collages full of meandering ramblings never lost sight of her one belief: that she still, spiritually, lived in that home on Summit Avenue

Sharon Anderson, a colorful thorn in the political eye, dies at 86
Anderson, arguably St. Paul’s most colorful Republican gadfly, claimed to have run for public office almost every year since 1970.

We hiked deep in Isle Royale to learn what we could about the deaths of two campers at the rugged and remote national park in Lake Superior.

It's a place known for its moose and wolves. But as one camper said: “The danger is from the people you go out here with.”

Cannot express how big the disconnect is between what Angelenos are seeing/saying to each other right now and what delusional rabid conservatives are barking online. I know it's par for the course, but this is another level.

Minneapolis here, what you don’t realize yet is that every anti-government & police nutjob within 48 hours drive is now heading to LA to brawl. And school is out and gas is cheap.
The fact they chose California as the flash point is also an indicator that they don't think these things through

LA has like 4M+ people. Sending every single ICE officer is ~20K, LAPD is 9K, LASD is 10K. Going in at 100:1 manpower – leaving zero bodies for literally anything else – is foolish

Not enough personnel to do martial law

The secret of American law enforcement is that most people voluntarily follow most laws most of the time

If that changes for a significant %, things get overstretched very fast
