i see some reactions to this like it’s contentless and that’s just not true? not everybody believes in either of these two prongs.

Lots of people, mostly not on this website, think you shouldn’t have much floor.

Lots of people, many on this website, think you should absolutely have a ceiling.

It is amazingly horrifying in how little Labour leaders have zero, even negative faith in the values that their party's supposed to stand for. I have the deepest sympathies for the party ground floor workers and supporters who're disgusted by this grotesque betrayal of their values. It's despairing.

Sorry @erictopol.bsky.social it doesn't. All participants were normal coffee drinkers. Therefore, the coffee-drinker arm is the Control arm. The intervention of going cold turkey increased the hazard of AF by 64% (100/0.61). The whole report is written from the wrong perspective.

Was wondering what US state *would* be most analogous with the UK. From my distant understanding, I'd say it'd have to be one of the rust belt states, possibly Michigan due to it, AIUI, having a bit of a "faded glory" vibe. Plus, it has a higher-than-average Muslim population

The town with the worst health in England has better life expectancy than 80% of US states, which is scary when you consider what is being averaged across an entire state.

I’ve become negatively polarized into a to-the-death Harris defender partly because most of the discourse around her campaign is some variation of “she shouldn’t have spent the whole campaign saying [thing she said exactly once]”

Sometimes I see people like 20 tweets deep into an argument with Grok. Like, what are you doing brother? You are trying to win an argument with a vending machine.

the thing about bad things happening is that you only need a pretty small group of people to be complicit in them to make them happen. a LOT of horrible shit can happen without anybody getting their hands dirty with it. being non-complicit does nothing to stop harm in itself.

I am saying that if we are going to build our entire political program and all of our political analysis around an assumption, it would be nice to provide some reasonably robust empirical demonstration of that assumption.

I'm looking at overall turnout (barely less than 2020), at polls of non-voters (they favored Trump, unlike in previous election years), at other evidence of an electorally strong Palestine movement (Uncommitted did barely better than in 2012, DNC protests were small).
