Was wondering what US state *would* be most analogous with the UK. From my distant understanding, I'd say it'd have to be one of the rust belt states, possibly Michigan due to it, AIUI, having a bit of a "faded glory" vibe. Plus, it has a higher-than-average Muslim population

the thing about bad things happening is that you only need a pretty small group of people to be complicit in them to make them happen. a LOT of horrible shit can happen without anybody getting their hands dirty with it. being non-complicit does nothing to stop harm in itself.

I am saying that if we are going to build our entire political program and all of our political analysis around an assumption, it would be nice to provide some reasonably robust empirical demonstration of that assumption.

I'm looking at overall turnout (barely less than 2020), at polls of non-voters (they favored Trump, unlike in previous election years), at other evidence of an electorally strong Palestine movement (Uncommitted did barely better than in 2012, DNC protests were small).
