I got home from traveling last night, and I almost decided I was too tired to go drive out to retrieve the dog today and almost asked them to keep him till tomorrow. But I went and got him, and now he’s upstairs sleeping and I’m watching baseball, and that’s as good as it’s going to get right now.

One of my very earliest clear memories was being in St. Peter’s Square for the inauguration of John Paul I. I was four days shy of 5 years old.
Mostly what I remember is standing for HOURS in front of the obelisk, staring at that chimney, and being bored out of my fucking skull.
