I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

I'm actually super fucking mad that the Elon Musk era is gonna end because of narcissist infighting with a former reality TV show host, and not because even a single institution in American life made a serious effort to hold him responsible for a decade plus long crime spree

Elon Musk wakes up, bleary and disoriented.

"Grimes, I just had the weirdest dream..." he mutters as he rolls over to her.

"Tell me all about it, Space Daddy," replies Stephen Miller's wife in bed beside him.

"Yeah, tell her," comes Stephen's bitter voice from a chair in the semi-darkness.
Convinced Musk is so far gone at this point that if he did sober up, he'd have no recollection of the last 3 years and be shocked to discover that he owns Twitter

So he raised the tariffs, paused that raise, paused that pause, then paused that pause of the pause. And no-one knows if it'll be paused again (and if such a pause will be unpaused) or what happens when (or if) the pause whose pause was paused concludes.
A brief history of US tariffs on the EU...

Recent decades: Mostly low and stable
April 2: 20%
April 9: 10% during a 90 day pause
May 23 (day 44 of the pause): 50% from June 1
May 25: Back to 10%, reinstating the original pause
July 9 (end of 90 day pause): ???

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

The Rules Committee meets at 1 AM on Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning to ram through this disastrous bill. Why? Because they don't want you to see them ripping healthcare from millions of Americans.

You do not hold a hearing for a bill at 1 AM unless you're completely ashamed of it.

Jarring but certainly justified
Hearing Damadoran say he’s starting to bring emerging market valuation techniques to US companies (proximity to govt, family connections, etc as sources of defensibility mainly)…is quite jarring for the Professor of Valuation

part of what makes the current moment so infuriating is that these people had about 99% of everything they could have ever wanted and found the rules preventing them from acquiring that last 1% so onerous that they’re risking the entire system that created their wealth

Someone needs to explain to our Sec of Commerce how capitalism works.

America has a GLOBAL TRADE SURPLUS on services. Services have the highest margins and profits of our exports. That is where capital and expertise focused.

It is why we dominate in tech globally.
CNBC hosts literally laugh at Lutnick as he suggests that t-shirts, sneakers, towels, and TVs will again be made in the US as a result of Trump's trade war
