Do you want to know why Michelle Obama won’t run for president?

Here it is, and she’s not wrong…

At 47th st Manhattan. Haven’t moved yet in 45 min. Is it just so crowded downtown or is the march being stopped?

I've always refused to deal with these sorts of hyperbolic headline spewers. Depressing to see why that is a good idea. I never deal with any of the main official Dem organizations either - DNC, DSCC, DCCC etc.

Thanks for these details. Hopefully people will see the crooks for what they are.
If you work in/adjacent to Democratic politics, or even if you are an occasional Democratic donor, this new @adambonica.bsky.social piece is the most important thing you can read today.

The Democratic Party cannot build power if it allows scam pacs to thrive

We should not frame this as cowardice. Cowardice assumes they don’t want it.

The point is that they supported democracy if it benefited them, and the moment it didn’t, they didn’t. They are at best neutral to it: what matters is themselves and their power.

It is why fascism arrived at all.
The most disheartening thing about America’s descent into fascism has been the abject cowardice of virtually all the people and institutions that could have stood up and refused to comply.

"About 1,500 demonstrators, many of them lawyers sporting business attire, jammed the plaza outside Manhattan’s federal courthouse as part of the National Law Day of Action, chanting in favor of the rule of law and hoisting pocket Constitutions to the sky."
In Suits and Ties, Lawyers Protest Trump’s Attacks on the Legal System
The National Law Day of Action, which drew roughly 1,500 people in New York City, was organized to resist the president’s threats against judges and the nation’s jurisprudence.

Owning people and genocide? Fucking horrific. Universal human equality and freedom of speech? Fucking genius.

That’s the American conundrum and why history is complex and beautiful and terrifying.

I'd caution against pushing this message too hard.

Fundementally these deals are just extortion payments, and Trump sets the ransom.

If he decides he wants the optics of lots of "deals" more than he cares about the substance of what's in them, he'll have no problem signing many "deals" quickly.
Again even if we’re doing 18 bespoke trade deals in 90 days (as Bessent claims) you’d need to be completing a deal *every five days* to stay on track

20 days since the 90-day pause and we’ve done *zero*
Bessent on Fox & Friends: "We're doing bespoke deals."

I have seen a few questions regarding Democracy Docket:

1. It does not sell subscriber or member information or email addresses.

2. It is not part of Substack or ActBlue.

It is fearlessly independent, unapologetically pro-democracy. Subscribe now. newsletters.democracydocket.com

John Roberts is not "rebuking" Donald Trump. He's bending the knee. If you listen to what Roberts is *not* saying, you'll see he's telling Trump exactly what he wants to hear.
We've seen this before from another Chief Justice, in Marbury v. Madison.

Roberts wasn’t “rebuking” Trump when he issued his statement against impeaching judges, he was bending the knee.

the only thing donald trump has ever done that i support is boycotting the white house correspondent's dinner. he does it for the wrong reasons, but nevertheless the dinner is a an absolute horror show of everything wrong with media and politics. and it sucked that biden went to it.
The fact that the corporate legacy media is even having this event shows how little they understand the moment we are in and how little they intend to fight back.

Support fearlessly independent media.

The grimmest realization is not the very old one that Trump is a hyper-sensitive narcissist who thinks criticizing him should be illegal.

The grimmest realization is that a substantial number of Americans are born serfs, best suited for a monarchy, who thinks that’s manly and admirable and right.
Trump at the DOJ: "I believe that CNN and MSNDC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they are really corrupt and they are illegal. What they do is illegal."
