@charliejane.bsky.social I finished Lessons in Magic and Disaster at like 4AM. I'm right there with Jaime on Team This Reality Has Poor Narrative Structure. Thanks for the perspective, I needed that to work on a thing about a relationship. It was the right book at the right time.

Y'know what would be cool? @themountaingoats.bsky.social covering Gravel and @anidifrancomusic.bsky.social covering Jenny. Because sometimes someone shows up at your house on a motorcycle and you have no choice but to fall in love with them, at least for a while.

@hankgreen.bsky.social I remembered something you said in a video, basically that "the only person I know I'm smarter than is me in the past" and I could have sworn it was a TED talk. I know you were wearing a lanyard weird. I cannot find the video. What was that from, it's driving me crazy?!

I finally spotted a Mitchison in the wild! @amalelmohtar.com would be proud. Is book hunting a different form of bird watching?

Today's finished page. My favorite detail on this page is that Atlantis is so variable it can't be completed.

I wonder if I even have a mind left; it feels like a #masala of evolutionary urges and vengeance, overlaid with post hoc justifications from my college philosophy classes. I sigh and return to planning my trip.

She should be afraid. I know I am.

Ah, Savannah. Home of the six seasons: autumn, winter, pollen, spring, summer, and science fiction. It's currently "All Summer in a Day". Probably be Dune tomorrow.

I was clearly in a deeply cynical place when I first heard Cry for Judas by @themountaingoats.bsky.social bc I just realized the line isn't "some people try to be kind/and then learn from their mistakes". It's " some people crash two or three times..." New favorite mondegreen

This is excellent. Shared it with my horror book club discord and told them it's loosely based on one of the great works of the 20th century. Waiting for their reactions
I HAVE A NEW SHORT STORY OUT!

I’ve been struggling with whether to spoil the premise by saying the five words that would DEFINITELY get you to click.

So I won’t now, just go read it & be surprised.

At 2pm I’ll post the five words. ;)

Mine: "We've got spaghetti! And blankets. But we are not affiliated with that clown. He attracts too many children."
Everyone has one Mitch Hedberg joke stashed in their brain like a squirrel to sustain them whenever they need to feel joy for 30 seconds and mine is “they say the recipe for Sprite is Lemon and Lime but I tried to make it at home, there’s more to it than that”

This'll make more sense once I actually start writing the blog I keep threatening to make about my big dumb art project, but I just cracked the solution to the problem with the most complicated part. It feels SO good.

Here's your daily reminder that bookstores keep the love of reading alive — but they also keep neighborhoods beautiful. They are places to gather, to celebrate stories, to find community.

Please do your holiday shopping at your local independent bookstore, if you are lucky enough to still have one.

@themountaingoats.bsky.social, thank you from the bottom of my heart for that #savannah show last night! Y'all made my 8yo's *life* by playing her favorite song - Young Thousands - at her first rock concert. 10/10 parenting memory

I am being a good dad and playing the game, but Jesus fuck, Life is a terrible game. Random, long, and with a fuck load of math at the end. To be absolutely clear, I am kvetching about the Hasbro board game, since I realized my description could be about life as in existence
