Vance later says you don't have to "be Christian to be an American," but that Christianity is "America's creed" and a "shared moral language" beginning w/the Revolution.

History note: Catholics (like Vance) were part of the Revolution, but there was ALSO intense anti-Catholicism during the movement
Wow: Overt, unapologetic Christian nationalism from the Vice President here.

Even Trump has stopped short of saying something this explicit on the topic while President.
JD Vance gets the biggest applause of his speech so far when he says "by the grace of God we always will be a Christian nation"

Pope Leo XIV just appointed Fr. Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez — an immigrant from the Dominican Republic who became a U.S. citizen in 2018 — as bishop of Palm Beach.

That’s right: the Catholic diocese that includes Trump’s Mar-a-Lago is now led by an immigrant priest who’s marched against ICE’s abuse.
Pope Leo XIV Sends a Migrant Bishop to Mar-a-Lago
In a move loaded with symbolism, the new bishop of Palm Beach — home to Mar-a-Lago — is a Queens immigrant priest known for defending migrants and the poor.

If anyone wants to go watch the Iowa men play Western Illinois on Sunday I have a family obligation and can’t use my season tickets(2). Section II, Row 16. Just message me and you can have them. Nobody ever sits in the two seats next to me so you buy more and have a cheap family day at the game.

How does a fanbase hate referees that much and love ICE that much

A big subtext here: The GOP and Trump administration — including Trump himself! — have repeatedly bemoaned the plight of persecuted Christians over the years, often referencing Iranian Christians in particular.

But per this priest, the admin is trying to deport Iranian Christians back to Iran.
Via me and @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social: CBP posted a pic of two detained Iranians, saying, “No fun in the sun when you are unlawfully present.”

According to their Episcopal priest, they’re Christian converts seeking asylum, and deporting them may be a death sentence religionnews.com/2025/12/09/b...
Priest says sisters slated for deportation are Christians who could face persecution by Iran
WASHINGTON (RNS) — ‘We all feel a wound in our body of Christ, knowing what’s happening to them,’ said the Rev. Fran Gardner-Smith.

FIFA was predictably clowned for what was an abomination of a World Cup Draw, which included awarding a "peace prize" to Donald Trump.

Reminder about Jan 6:

it really happened
It was a horror
140+ police were injured
A range of violent weapons were used by attackers
Chants to hang Mike Pence were heard
There was a gallows and guns
Pipe bombs diverted police as mob approached

They are beating people who maybe once had a broken taillight and sending them to foreign slave prisons while freeing the worst fraudsters and every corrupt pol. The juxtaposition is so stark and appalling.
NEW: The commutation Trump issued to David Gentile wipes away all further fines & restitution.

Gentile had been sentenced to 7 years for his role in a $1.6B scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.

Prosecutors had been seeking $15.5M in forfeiture.

This is why the Carver Hawkeye thing is so important:

You go to MSU or Purdue or Wisconsin, and you watch the referees absolutely melt, and then everything else from the opposition collapses under the weight of eight-on-five. You don't get that when half the crowd is knitting.
