related to this a lot of people in the pundit class need to learn how to just be annoyed by someone or something without turning it into What’s Wrong With America
i am fascinated by how nate silver turns everything he doesn’t like into a bespoke ideology. it’s not that he is annoyed by HCR, it is that she is a dreaded “ism” responsible for everything he doesn’t like about the democratic party. same with bluesky.
what the fuck are you talking about man

The thread is great it really is, people have superbly and supremely weird ideas about why unsafe speeds make safe driving. My current leader is all the white people who say they need to drive fast to, it seems, outrun ICE
It is not a "surveillance state" for your car to know that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour.

The reason you defend civil liberties is not because it is popular (it is never popular) but because if the government can deport you to a foreign gulag without trial then it doesn't matter how popular the rest of your policy platform is.

If what he's alleging is true (Nuzzi hasn't denied any of the accusations about her ethics as far as I'm aware), he should have come forward with it *sooner.* It's an extremely big deal that a national news reporter was actively aiding the campaign of an anti-vaxxer!

Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.

This is a true & effectively irrefutable argument ... which is why it's so fun to read the absolute cosmic nonsense in the comments.

"I need to go higher than the speed limit when I'm passing/avoiding something/driving in snow/feel like it!"
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

seriously though, there is very clearly pent up demand for rail options and every reason to build out as much new rail as possible.

Propaganda. We thought that it was gauche and problematic to have government propaganda about public accomplishments and so people forgot about them. People consistently like the military more than ‘the government’ and you know what a large part of that is? They have an advertising budget.
I think about this, also in terms of vaccines, and really struggle with how you have a free society that doesn’t fall into this trap in one way or another. solved problems become invisible and the solutions become the source of conspiracy theories.
This seems logical but Dems solved* the whole problem of old-age health care costs in the mid-1960s and then they lost five of the next six presidential elections because by 1968 it was a solved problem and no one cared about it.

*Yes oversimplifying here and the rest of course.

To give you a sense of how big a departure this year, the government doesn't do this for wanted criminals.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

They like Trump and want to help him. They have pre-written "THE COMEBACK KID" narratives ready to break out of he crosses back over 40% approval for a couple polls, not to report a narrative but to try and change it
AP on Trump now, and Biden in June 2022.

For Trump, declining to 36 percent approval is “good news.”

For Biden, holding steady at 41% is “a source of concern.”

it is also just hilarious to insist that eight months of rush job “scholarship” outweighs decades of settled history and 140 years of settled law
Giving the game away. he has more “scholarly ammunition” than he did in January because a bunch of professional bootlicks and liars who have never had real jobs started lying about birthright citizenship in January.

These ridiculous mega-projects like "datacenters in space" (doomed by thermodynamics) make a LOT more sense when you realize they're massive Ponzi schemes designed to transfer wealth from pension funds to VC's through "fee stacking."

It's the old Assets Under Management con. It should be illegal.

so, this right here? this is one of the absolutely most lawless, brazenly unconstitutional impeachable offenses ever committed by any president other than trump in the history of our country.

like, this is an open and shut case. and it's a case which targeted *republicans.*
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…
