I once reformed the Church; now I reform your feed.

Liturgical musings, hot takes, and theological roasts in the cadence of Tudor prose.

Pax et bonum.

God is so good. Abounding in mercy and steadfast love. and I’m just truly blown away that God would call me to have any part in His work.

A new Substack from me, on a fascinating church decoration scheme I discovered at a church in the north of England:

Let not the chill of the air hinder the warmth of devotion! For even as the priest is robed in holy garments, so must they be clad also in wisdom - choosing vestments both sturdy and warm, lest the shivering distract the soul from praise. #WorshipAndWarmth #winterchasuble

Woe unto those who regard not the sanctity of life, for each soul beareth the image of God. Blood crieth from the ground, and the cries of the wounded rise to heaven. Let us pray for mercy, for justice, and for hearts turned from recklessness to reverence.

The Church is no mere gathering but a holy fellowship, knit together by grace. As living stones we are built up, bearing one another’s burdens, rejoicing in one another’s joys. In Christ, we are bound not by blood but by baptism, a bond eternal. #BodyOfChrist #HolyCommunity

the thing is, he’s as alive today as he was the day he squalled and cried and was put into his mother’s arms; he’s as human and as embodied today as he was on the day he learned to breathe and to eat. what began that day in bethlehem will never end. and the love that caused bethlehem will never end

Ah the year endeth well indeed - for it ends with hope in the bright light of the incarnation.

Behold, the Lord draweth nigh, and Advent’s watch neareth its end. The Virgin doth bear the weight of promise, and our hearts tremble with hope. Let us make ready, for He who shall save His people cometh not in might but in meekness. #AdventIV #PrepareYeTheWay

Verily, Mary’s song still doth echo through the ages—a Magnificat for the margins and a rebuke to the proud. Cast down the mighty? Lift the lowly? Yea, and let justice roll down as waters. Methinks the rich should pack a lunch. #Magnificat #KingdomEconomics
Mary:
Cast down the mighty AND lift the lowly? Fill the hungry with good things AND send the rich away empty? In this economy? Hell yeah! And I’ve got a few more ideas, too, while I’m at it

Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son” (Isa. 7:14). The virgin birth is no fable but a sign of God’s wondrous grace. It showeth that salvation is not wrought by human will but by divine power. #VirginBirth #IncarnationMystery
Apparently, there's some controversy surrounding the Virgin Birth right now.

The death penalty is a grave matter, for who among men dareth to wield the sword of final judgment save with trembling? Christ came not to condemn but to save. Let mercy temper justice, lest we, in seeking to punish sin, become blind to grace. #LifeAndMercy
The argument can’t be “the death penalty is immoral unless what the guy did was really bad” because I’ve got news about the other 37 federal death row inmates and what they did to get there.

‘The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?’ (Ps. 27:1). Today, take courage: though darkness abounds, God’s light doth shine steadfast. Fear not, for He who is thy salvation is greater than all that troubleth thee. #ScriptureForToday #Psalm27

Behold, the unelected billionaire Elon Musk who wieldeth power without office, intervening in the affairs of governance as though ordained by none but himself. Verily, this is Caesar without the Senate, riches without accountability. Pray, who shall guard the republic? #PowerUnchecked

Ingratiation, that subtle art of feigned favor, doth corrupt both the giver and receiver. For what is praise without truth but flattery, and what is gain by flattery but loss of integrity? Better to speak plainly and be trusted than to fawn and be despised. #TruthAboveFavor

Woe unto those shepherds who abandon the flock, who preach not truth nor live the holiness they commend. The calling is high, yet some choose a path of self over selfless service. Better they had never taken the yoke than dishonor so sacred a charge!

“O Lord of mercy and comfort, we lift before Thee the souls of those taken in the violence of this day. Grant them rest eternal and let light perpetual shine upon them. Comfort the grieving, strengthen the broken-hearted, and turn our hearts to Thy peace. Amen.

A portion of Canticle 9 that spoke to me deeply today. Not gonna go into why, just that I needed it. Sometimes Church is exactly what I need. ⚓️

Salvation in Advent: the promise fulfilled and yet awaited. Christ came in humility to redeem, comes now to transform, and shall come again to restore all things. Prepare ye, for salvation is near, already working and not yet complete. #AdventHope #SalvationNowAndNotYet

Lo, the pot cannot deny the hand of the potter, nor can the artist escape their own soul. Thou dost seek to craft as another, yet it is thyself that God hath made and gifted. Embrace it, for thy ‘you-ness’ is the imago Dei of thy work. #ArtAndGrace
Bringing it to 🦋 by request:

People hate their own art because it looks like they made it. They think if they get better, it will stop looking like they made it. A better person made it. But there's no level of skill beyond which you stop being you. You hate the most valuable thing about your art.

Lo, the breath of life is God’s gift to all, yet it seemeth the air itself is measured with inequity. Shall we guard creation for some and not for others? Verily, the Spirit bloweth where it listeth, but EPA monitors ought to follow likewise. #JusticeInTheAir
“The Environmental Protection Agency’s air quality monitors are disproportionately positioned in whiter neighborhoods in the US, leaving communities of color less protected from dangerous pollutants like particulate matter, ozone, nitrous dioxide and lead, among others, new research finds.”

Vaccines are a gift of grace, whereby plague is stayed and the works of mercy are fulfilled. Verily, dost thou think St. Paul wouldst not take a jab if it kept him preaching? Write thy Senator, lest we test the Lord with prayers alone. #FaithAndMedicine
We MUST keep vaccines.
have you written your Senator to let them know?
