I keep thinking about "3D impressionism" as a much needed term for the way we think about art direction in games

To me measuring how "better" or "worse" the graphics are only in terms of their relation to reality is like claiming the photo of a street in Arles is objectively superior to Van Gogh

UFO50 lands on the switch LATER TODAY, maybe even by the time you read this. this game has now joyously commanded great swathes of my attention for the better part of a year — mainly on a steamdeck bc it’s such an ideal portable experience. if you have a switch but not UFO50, it’s a huge day for you

Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay from July 26, 1908. One of the most well known installments of the comic strip.
In this installment, Nemo awakens to find Flip sleeping next to him in bed. The legs on the bed start to grow and then moving, carrying them outside Nemo’s house onto the street. The legs keep growing, eventually surpassing the hallway building in the city in height. Finally, the collapse, sending Nemo and Flip falling. In the final panel, Nemo awakens for real to find he has fallen out of bed.
