Twin Peaks, horror, books, psychotronalia. He/him.
Woke up early one morning in quarantine and made a cardboard box fort for my 3 year old daughter.

Over the next few weeks it grew to multiple boxes/rooms, a hallway, doors and windows that opened and closed, and trapdoor skylight.
What's a charming memory you have from the worst period of the pandemic?

I can’t really argue* with all the negative reviews of M3gan 2.0, but I have to admit they don’t really jibe with how much fun I had with it.

It is a bit overlong, and swipes some style from Upgrade, but I had a blast with its early 90s maximalist techno-thriller vibes.

Post your favorite LOTR character. Wrong answers only.

“There he took up again his great Ring in Barad-dur, and dwelt there, dark and silent, until he wrought himself a new guise, an image of malice and hatred made visible; and the Eye of Sauron the Terrible few could endure.”

I have written and deleted so many versions of this, because it’s a fraught topic, but I have to say;

Amber and I just finished Sandman season 2 and found it a uniquely emotional experience. I loved it, exceeded all of my expectations. And I have complicated feelings about that I might share later.

Starting off the morning with some cerebral sci-fi.

#NowWatching Ikarie XB 1. I saw this mentioned in a short documentary about Soviet fantasy and horror films, then two days later heard it discussed on the @purecinemapod.bsky.social.

Seems like a sign to me.

I am compelled today to post this clip, the best thing that ever happened during my time working for Channel 2 News, the NBC affiliate back in Alaska.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Since we are once again dealing with "the only silent era comedians of note were men" I feel I need to stand up for the ladies.

Share a 90s movie you think deserves more love.

The Woman Chaser (1999)

Based on a book by Charles Willeford (Miami Blues, Cockfighter), it’s a darkly funny noir-esque story of staying true to your artistic vision no matter what.

A really cool movie that for years was very hard to find.

I want you to get a fuckin' driver's manual, and I want you to study that motherfucker! Fifty-fuckin' thousand people were killed on the highways last year 'cause of fuckin' assholes like you, Charlie Brown!
it's shite being charlie brown!

Some movies were just made for viewing on Tubi while washing dishes.

#NowWatching Blackenstein (1973).

Look, the Blacula films are legitimately good, but I’m not expecting the same from this. Still, I am curious…

More from the Great Movie Haul! More Eastwood! More copaganda!

#NowWatching Dirty Harry.

The first and last time I watched this was in London 25 years ago. I don’t think I’ve seen any of the sequels so I’m looking forward to making my way through this set.

I’ve been off this week and almost posted this as #FolkHorrorFriday. It’s gonna be rough going back to work Monday.

Anyway, #NowWatching Witchhammer (1970)

A Czech film about brutal with trials in the last 1600s. Part of the All The Haunts Be Ours boxset.

This is super hard to follow, and I’m not entirely sure what the actual story is, only the basic outline.

But hoo-boy does this have some of the gnarliest, most impressive practical effects I’ve seen in awhile. Truly demonic.

Recommended for that alone.

Maybe time for one more horror movie before bed. I may not be able to finish it in one go, but that’s ok.

#NowWatching Deus Irae, from Argentina.

I know nothing about this, but it appears to be about exorcists, historically a genre that bores me to tears. Let’s see how this goes!

Honestly a point in favor of my theory that Poker Face would be recast because of Natasha Lyonne’s continued doubling down on making AI films.
While on tour promoting 'Wake Up Dead Man', Rian Johnson goes off on AI for “making everything worse in every single way.” bit.ly/47UBPfH

Brand new track from Snowcuffs just dropped! One of my favorite new acts of 2025.

This one slows it down a tad, but it’s still got that dreamy, shimmery, shoegaze-y sound. Good stuff.

Hoping for an LA date sometime in the near future.
