VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: SHRESHTA Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING AT THE FRIDA CINEMA? A: I've been volunteering at the Frida for about six months now. Q: WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WITH THE FRIDA CINEMA? A: I love being part of a community that cares about celebrating the best that film has to offer. I've been watching movies at The Frida for around a 7 years now, and I wish I started volunteering earlier. I'm thankful for the space's existence, and I want to contribute to it in some way. Q: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT 'MILLENNIUM MAMBO", AND WHAT MADE YOU PICK IT? A: I picked Millennium Mambo for my VOTM movie because I think experiencing the film in theaters adds to the ambiance and environment. I remember reading a review of the film that argues that it's less about what we do at clubs and parties and more about what we come home to when the party is over. I'd like to experience that push and pull in a theater. I also like this film because personally I see it as a reminder for why we shouldn't underestimate how powerful inertia can be, and why we should instead question and resist it. Vicky's (the protagonist) relationships throughout the film are so stuck, and I remember wanting to tear her away from what she kept returning to when I saw the film for the first time.
