Sending unpaid troops on pointless missions to stand around in cities and pick up trash the sort of stuff a Roman Emperor did when their daily regiment of drinking medicinal mercury started hitting them directly in the brainstem.

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

The worst thing about this crop of neo-fascist influencers is that they’re all evil in ways that don’t even register as meaningful to anybody not chronically online; If I tried to explain to my normie, Silent Generation parents why Elon’s “Kekius Maximus” bullshit matters, they’d have me committed.
They will be making villain biopics about this man for decades to come, and none of them will be remotely watchable

People will die by the theater-load, stricken en masse by secondhand cringe

I hate that every single person I see criticizing DOGE has to say "I'm sure there's waste" and "cutting waste is good."

Fuck that. The right never says that about the military. We never say that about CEO salaries. We never say that about corporate bonuses.

It's absolutely insane that Elon Musk and his wrecking crew are saying they're firing entire swaths of our government infrastructure and the press are just like "oh that's sad but what are you gonna do, guess they're fired." It is batshit crazypants, and it's being covered like normal policy choices

Gives you a sense of how serious these offers are. TChanged on a whim, whenever Trump discovers that federal employees do real work.

One thing I will say gently is, I think "mutual aid" sounds academic or theoretical to a lot of people because the US education system does not meaningfully teach Black history.

Formal mutual aid societies were an integral part of how freed/escaped enslaved people helped each other survive.
This is a great thread, but what struck me about it is that my grandmother had a term for what's being described here. She called it, "being neighborly," and it was just par for the course in the small town where she lived for most of her life. "Mutual aid" sounds academic, but "neighborly" doesn't.
I think a lot of people have mutual aid confused with charity on here, maybe because folks most often see it in the context of fundraiser asks (which are great!).

I want to talk a little about what it looks like in everyday life.

Because we need it more than ever. Government is getting shredded.

If Eisenhower hadn’t ordered the army to film everything they saw, it would be easier for people to argue today it didn’t happen. Too many people still try

It happened
