I'm struck by how most commentary frames the issue as violence within the unhoused community, as if to suggest lack of housing somehow begets violence.

Not once stepping back to think: maybe someone is targeting the most vulnerable among us.
I don’t have words for the two mass shootings targeting unhoused people yesterday. Our city is so unserious about actually doing anything to support unhoused people.
Might not be able to misgender them, but nothing stopping anyone from calling bigots bigots.
1. In a devastating decision for trans kids in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, the 6th Circuit has ruled students can bully trans kids by repeatedly misgendering them.

Trans kids also are not allowed to return the favor to their bullies.

6th Circuit Rules Cis Students May Bully Trans Students By Repeatedly Misgendering Them
The Circuit also seemed to suggest that trans students could not misgender their bullies in return.

I almost can’t believe this. I spend an absurd amount of time litigating pre-enforcement standing in the 6th Circuit, which makes establishing pre-enforcement standing near impossible. *En banc,* the 6th Circuit just blessed pre-enforcement standing in a culture war case with wafer-thin analysis.

Ultimately, the government is putting unhoused people into camps because they're mentally ill. Like the Nazis did.

Yes. Mellon donated more to MAGA in 2024 than any other individual.

He really hates Black people, trans people, and women.
Ah.

“Mellon, the 77-year-old … who poured $30 million into 3 GOP super PACs in 5 months, wrote that black people were ‘even more belligerent’ after the expansion of social programs in the 1960s and 1970s and that Americans who rely on government assistance were ‘slaves of a new Master, Uncle Sam.’”

On Threads, the AP promoted this story with the caption: “Anti-abortion pregnancy centers offer much more than free ultrasounds and diapers. Here's why they're expanding as Planned Parenthood clinics close.” Do better @apnews.com
Once again, this kind of “both sides” coverage of crisis pregnancy centers is simply not going to cut it, because on one “side” we have medical and scientific consensus—and basic facts—and on the other “side” we have disinformation. Giving these perspectives equal weight is journalistic malpractice

More anti-abortion pregnancy centers have been offering medical services such as testing for sexually transmitted infections.

"Fuck them trannies" is not an important conversation for wealthy white men to be having.

Every conversation among these bros about helping MORE people devolves into an attack of trans people's basic right to exist.

Why is that?
This is an important conversation but I am struck that nowhere does the power of conservative media come up; indeed media is described as “progressive.” No mention of Rush Limbaugh and talk radio, Fox News, Twitter, or right-wing influencers with huge audiences.

Gambling is now the largest industry in at least half a dozen states, and almost without exception, those states have the highest rates of disability.

Gambling siphons off at least $500B in SSI, SSDI, and DIC payments annually.

Like a pipeline of despair.

These are perhaps 6 of the 12 the counties in the country with the largest Hispanic populations, outside of Texas and AZ.
Maybe I’m blind but I’m sure not seeing any rationale behind why these specific jurisdictions are getting scrutiny.

absolutely shameful that the university has embraced the administration’s demand that it discriminate against its students. this is the board of visitors telling UVA students that if they aren’t white and cisgendered then they don’t belong.
The University of Virginia has capitulated to Trump on transgender and race (affirmative action) issues.

The details are currently sparse, but reporting suggests they've agreed to define trans people out of existence and ban trans students from facilities.

See also Malcolm Kenyatta. For Dems, candidates and leaders can be Black or gay, not Black and Gay.

And if you're Black, it helps to be fat, old, or Urkel-level nerdy.

Uff da.
Florida Democrats found out ole buddy that ran against DeSantis liked to have sex with men and do a little drugs and they left him out to HANG b/c he was Black.

But you can be a full blown NAZI and still have the party rally around you if you’re white.

So let's look in totality. Candidate

* Rants about black people and sexual assault victims

* Is intemperate and drops r-word on random Canadians

* Said he would have served in Indian Wars if he could

* Worked for merc outfit

* Has extremely sus tattoo he got "while drunk in Croatia"

Just so everyone is clear, the main issue in the Supreme Court voting rights case tomorrow is whether it's racist against white people to enforce the Voting Rights Act.

I'm dead serious. We live in incredibly stupid times.
