tbh i genuinely believe that people doing shit like breaking down narrative media into constituent "tropes" and actively pursuing media based around if it fulfills their preferred tropes and showing that you can market a work purely on it fulfilling those tropes was a precursor for AI slop media

Thinking about loops and resources after diving back into Mega Man (even before the announcement, my Hand-Drawn Game Guide came in on Monday!), and those games are balanced so strongly around the Level, not just Encounters- few enemies are likely to kill you, but they *will* whittle you down.
there's never any reset to zero. everything you do in a level effects everything else. exploration, resources and combat are all one. opposed to in a modern doom game where the dynamic ammo system means you reset to zero and do a full execution of the gameplay loop several times per encounter

Rusted Moss has a setting of technology meets folk tales; that's what got me to pick it up at first. But what hooked me in (hah ha!) is the grappling hook bungee cord mechanic. It's physics-based and lets you explore ahead of where you're "supposed" to be.
