I’m making an effort to bird less birded areas and a goal to see 250 birds within a 5 mile radius this year
I’m pretty sure I have enough diverse habitat to accomplish this
I will likely have to uncover a few of my own rare migrants in my patch to do so tho!

The next generation
Although humans are currently the dominant species, we’re just one in the long line of many

Light was horrid. Literally moments before a storm
This Grace’s warbler was giving people fits I had a genuine 3 seconds visually. About another 10-15 mins tracking it auditorily
Spent most of it time high in the canopy of conifers but will use a mixed flock for safety

Yep, I've had this experience on eBird too: got a nastygram about an American goldfinch vs Lesser goldfinch listing. Guy was downright mean about it, and it wasn't even my list - it was shared from a group trip!

With my county as a case study, I have seen Orange County yearly bird number increased by as much as 100 species with the wide adoption of eBird
Orange County birders did not eclipse 300 birds until 2015
Since the 3-5 people yearly eclipse 300 birds
I’m the most recent in that club being the 30th

Actual scientist would have an infinitesimal amount of data without citizen scientist. This mfer should humble himself

This is the time of year budding birders start to ditch using eBird because of review season
I totally understand the reviews for accuracy, but so many folks get intimidated by getting an email from a county reviewer who (while likely is a good birder) you dont know
