A ring-billed gull dives for a fish in a pond. A whooping crane is after a frog to eat. A great blue heron is diving for a fish. It's head and neck are completely submerged. Nobody dives for food like the Canada Goose a.k.a. the "Cobra Chicken".

I often see red-winged blackbirds on sandhill cranes, but I don't often see the red-winged blackbird socializing with the green herons. A couple shots of each.

Red-winged Blackbird on the rump of a Sandhill Crane. The small red-winged blackbird harasses the sandhills all summer during breeding season as they are territorial. The harassment usually cools off after their young are raised. However, sandhills have been known to raid their nests. I have also seen great friendship between these two species during migration. The red-winged blackbird can be relentless when harassing the sandhill cranes. This red-winged blackbird was getting very chatty with the green heron at the pond. I was surprised how long this odd couple (red-winged blackbird and green heron) sat in close proximity after some excitement when the red-winged blackbird came in for it's landing very close o the heron.

There is a sandbar in the WI River with a huge old Oak tree where the Bald Eagles like to hang out. It's leaning quite a bit, so I don't know how many more years it has. The sand isn't the greatest base, but it grew very tall in the middle if the river.

The Common Mergansers are fearless at the dam. Last weekend I saw them splooshing in the turbulent dam waters and diving upstream against the rushing waters for fish. They were amazing to watch.

Just a bird and his fish. It gives good documentation of the size fish they are catching this year.The fish seem bigger than years past. I don't know if the location is stocked or not.

Went to the River yesterday. Not much happening there since it's been warmer . It was a great day for a ride in the county for some cloud watching. Our clouds change in a heartbeat here. Very fast moving. I was hoping the altostratus would become mammatus, but they did not. Fun skies tho. #clouds

This weekend I captured something I had not witnessed on camera before. In winter, ducks eat fish here. Here's a Common Goldeneye with a catch and his Mallard buddy is very interested in knowing if he would share or accidentally drop his catch. #birds #ducks
A black and white duck with golden eyes has caught a fish and there is a a mallard drake following him around to see if he loses his grip on his fish or any bits drop in the water. I had not witnessed on camera ducks eating fish before, so it was novel to see this for me. Our waters get so cold, there is no vegetation for them to eat in the coldest part of winter. They fish to stay alive. The birds who brave our winters are just metal, ducks and eagles alike.

This pic brings back many memories of childhood. We lived on a double city lot. The extra lot had many fruit trees and flowers and a tree house in the apple tree. In the winter my Dad would flood the extra lot for a skating rink that we all enjoyed. The picture includes myself and my youngest brother.

Haven't gotten to my pics from yesterday, but there aren't many to look at. It was very quiet at the dam yesterday. Just a few eagles and ducks. Pics when I can. I mostly just enjoyed being outside on a sunny 20F day. It was beautiful out there.

Keeping myself busy in this cold weather with these small projects.
- Reading "The Earth Has a Soul" by CG Jung
- Tried making some bookmarks. My Sandhill one did not turn out well, so I will try again, but the Brolga Crane and Blue Crane came nice.

Psychology is another one of my hobbies, so this book about nature, archetypes, and views on nature is something that I accidentally found and thought it would be great to read. Bookmark design of a Brolga Crane. I have been looking for an alternate professional print service. I don't think my regular print service does small stuff anymore like bus cards and bookmarks. Bookmark design of a Blue Crane. I thought I may try to do all the cranes of the world by using and getting more photos from ICF (International Crane Foundation) and make a nice set.
