One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros would be the latest in this harmful trend — and could kill the movie theater industry.

If Netflix gets their way, their increased domination would make things worse for viewers and artists.

Netflix to Buy Warner Bros. for $72 Billion
The deal would reshape the entertainment and media industry, but it is set to face scrutiny from lawmakers.

Forty years ago, 90% of media outlets were spread across 50 companies.

Now, just 5 companies control 90% of the media market.

This consolidation hurts consumers and helps oligarchs. 🧵

The positive outcome of this story is that in frantically googling around trying to figure out what happened and how I could at least see the end of the episode, I discovered that the show is available at my local library and actually can be streamed thence via Hoopla 🎉

The other night I was idly watching the sixth episode in a new-to-me TV series on Netflix and about 10 minutes before the end of the episode the playback froze. After trying to restart it for a bit I exited and re-opened Netflix and the entire series had disappeared, apparently deleted from the app.

this is the first i'm hearing of it and it looks AMAZING what the heck
This week, Netflix will drop a western with Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson as warring matriarchs of opposing clans. Not a one of the dozens of media writers I follow online has ever mentioned this show, and yet its three-week-old trailer has over 1M views. Make it make sense.

On World AIDS Day, I’m reminded of all the positive folks who have fought, and continue to fight, secrecy, stigma, and shame. HIV is a chronic illness conditioned by state violence, poverty, inequality, and discrimination. We can end HIV by cultivating better healthcare and more inclusive societies.

New calligraphic work: "On Resisting ICE and the DHS"

This one is complex enough that I am providing a key to how it's structured, similar to those keys you see that show how a Talmud page is divided up. See the alt for the explanation.

It's easy to see shoddy research as a bad actor problem. But if AI slop like this can make it through editors and peer reviewers, it means there are systemic problems at work. And I'd argue that at least part of the problem is the overwork culture in academia-- pressure to do more while caring less.
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

This is an excellent story. We got similar pitches from the same writer at Defector and if they had not been entirely generated by someone plugging prompts into The Fabulism Device they really would've been cool.
A few months ago @thelocal.to got a promising pitch from a writer with bylines in whole bunch of reputable publications—The Cut, The Guardian, Dwell, Architectural Digest, etc. Then I started investigating. Here's a story about fabulists in journalism's AI slop era. thelocal.to/investigatin...
