"While DETENTION draws heavily from Japanese video games — its alternating versions of the school mirror the mixed-realities approach favored by the SILENT HILL franchise — its horrors are heavily rooted in Taiwanese history." Don't forget: DETENTION is the high that SILENT HILL fans are chasing.
How ‘Detention’ Became Cinema’s Greatest Video Game Adaptation
Taiwanese horror film 'Detention' is, by any meaningful evaluation, quite easily the best video game adaptation of all time.

It's been a long time since I rushed out and bought a board game, but I immediately pulled the trigger on STAR TREK: CAPTAIN'S CHAIR when I heard it described as a deckbuilding version of TWILIGHT IMPERIUM for 1-2 players.

Invoking wealthy class solidarity to excuse sex crimes against children is sorta the Epstein Class in a nutshell
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

Didn't think I could be any more excited for my tickets to SCHMIGADOON! and then I realized that the lead is Alex Brightman, who was great in BEETLEJUICE but fucking in-cred-ible as a young Richard Dreyfuss in THE SHARK IS BROKEN.

It only happens a few times a year, but certain films just inspire preemptive strikes, where people's reaction to a movie is actually a preemptive response to an imagined audience who disagrees with them. I'm opting out of the whole thing.

A million years ago, I ran point on a short marketing campaign with WeRateDogs, and I remember thinking even then that the college student who was running this giant social empire was the antithesis of most influencers - he was down to earth, kind, and thoughtful. Time has proven me correct.

Everyone knows I'm a sucker for all things Cullen Bunn, but still, I love this nonprofit idea. Kids need community, and building safe spaces for tabletop and age-appropriate horror can help put them on a healthy path as they move into adulthood.

Just watched the series finale for STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION ("All Good Things..."), which was the first episode of any kind of STAR TREK I'd watched in 10+ years. Just marking this occasion so that when you next hear from me and I'm two seasons into a NEXT GENERATION rewatch, you'll know why.

Today CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD is on Hulu.

Which means, if you bundle, it's also on Disney+.

Which means your toddler should skip BLUEY today and watch CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD instead.

THE ‘BURBS (1989): Couldn’t quite figure out why this movie was being remade as a show, so I went back and rewatched it. It’s actually the perfect film for the NextDoor / Facebook Group era. Just a bunch of absolute idiots obsessing over anyone that isn’t them.

“I don’t believe in the chair. But I’m going to obey the chair.” It's the wild fucking west out here, folks, and I find it utterly charming*.

Philly residents thought they had a winter parking system. Then the snow stuck around.

It is so, so painful to be a fan of the one Seattle sports team that has never made it to the championship (Mariners) while NOT being a fan of the OTHER Seattle sports team that just won a championship (Seahawks).

Brutal to watch Drake Maye’s string of terrible playoff games continue. Can’t be mad about the Seahawks winning, though — I know too many fans from my hometown. Also, can’t be mad about the Krafts eating shit tonight.

My goodness, the first 150 pages of REKT are very, very unpleasant. Like reading a Chuck Palahniuk novel about snuff films. Good, engaging, just unpleasant.
