American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Ridiculous that the only news site that is showing *all* of the NYC election results (including the ballot proposals), at least so far as I can tell, is the NYTimes; which is behind a paywall 🙃 I don’t wanna see NYC mayor next to NJ Governor, I wanna see *all* the NYC results, thank you very much

I think you can even go a step further; for a lot of conservatives/MAGA, when they say “I love this country” they mean themselves. They don’t distinguish between themselves as white, Christian men, and America as a country. They don’t care about the *actual* country, only themselves as avatars of it
when conservatives say they love their country, that doesn't include all the parts of America they hate; lefties and queer people and immigrants and indigenous peoples aren't "real America"

I’ve seen this video several times since it was first posted, and the thing that never ceases to amaze me is—she was being recorded. And, presumably, she *knew* she was being recorded. The camera is in the car.

One thing I absolutely believe should happen as soon as Democrats have control of one chamber or another, is to do a commission on media bias, and drag all the major broadcasters for their coverage of Trump and his admin—
i'm kind of with will here. one of the *strangest* features of this age is that nominally liberal elites seem totally enervated in the face of fascism--meanwhile the liberal base is screaming our heads off. this doesn't comport at all with the standard story--
If Biden had said even one-tenth of this, he’d have been impeached and removed as a dictator. What is wrong with our elites? They’re paralyzed by their fear of looking unsavvy or biased against MAGA. They’re going to keep pretending everything is normal until the bullet passes through their face

They don’t want to fight crime, they want to fight criminals. And the ways they want to do that are ways that lead to more crime, not less. It’s a consistent part of their politics
The irony here, which would be lost on a vapid Klan influencer like Benny, is that racist urban renewal practices immediately preceded and probably helped precipitate the massive 20th century urban crime wave.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

The party that doesn't support funding for third spaces for kids thinks the kids are criminal when they're out joyriding because we've given them nothing else to do. Textbook conservatives treating "being Black in public" as a crime.
