Best Bird dad/mediocre husband. Former 2x Writer of the Year. Minor A’s Bluesky celebrity and Raiders masochist. Once fought off 22 raccoons. I call all y’all "dude".
One of the top three moments of fatherhood was when my son got his driver's license and I no longer needed to carpool his shitbag buddies who regurgitated the absolute worst (and dumbest) stuff from their shitbag moms and dads
From the right-wing Manhattan Institute's focus group of Gen Z conservatives -- just jaw-dropping stuff. We have a very sick society. www.city-journal.org/article/manh...

Another holiday reading for preschoolers of military families is...in the books 😎 Best question came from a dad in uniform:

Him: Did you bring a Padres book? At least THEY made the playoffs lol

Me: Oh, see, you have to win a world championship to get a children's book about you. Just one, son!

This guy was OC/OL coach at my alma mater. I met him a couple of times at events. I remember not liking him. My judgement remains sound (except for @thatbootlegguy.bsky.social )
NEWS: Ohio University fired head football coach Brian Smith for having a romantic relationship with an undergraduate student and for an allegation that he was intoxicated during a public appearance, according to documents obtained Thursday through a public records request.

Director: I thought we were offering [X] in our proposal?

Me: No, I sent you an email two days ago on why we couldn't.

Him: I must've missed that. Can you give me a summary?

Me: *gives summary*

Him: I wish I'd known this before you sent the proposal out.

An immaculate job of shamelessly running cover for Puka Nacua just now by Al Michaels on Amazon Prime broadcast. Everyone on this telecast should be embarrassed. Alas.

One of our directors got fall-down drunk, grabbed my crotch and tried to kiss me, then, about five minutes later, fell down. She wasn't fired, but our department holiday party wasn't held the following year 🤷🏾
Tis the season for work holiday party snafus
I got drunk at a holiday party and told the CMO I had sex in the break room on the couch that used to be in there one time and he said he took it home and it was in his kids rec room now

In my mid-30s, I developed a multitude of serious respiratory issues. Male doctor blamed my diet, drinking, lack of exercise. Months of his dismissive shit. Friend recommended a neighbor. Saw her and a week later was diagnosed with AERD (fka Samter's Triad). I could have died!
My eye doctor wouldn't refer me to get cataracts removed (genetic), saying they weren't bad enough yet. He is out indefinitely and replaced by a woman. My wife said: "Make an appt and tell her the exact same thing, I'll bet she'll refer you."

Guess what? Total empathy and a quick referral.

Generally speaking, women listen during a conversation as opposed to just waiting for an opening when the other person stops talking. My therapists have all been women. My primary care doc was a man. He was great! My new one is a woman. She's better!
Just heard a man ask other men besides anything sexual... Why do you like women?

Wolfing down a sandwich and wasn't sure who this was referring to. Scrolled down my TL a bit and nearly choked lol
Is there some sort of "rehabbing disgraced blonde ladies" beat at the NYT, is that what's happening here?

I would, however, love for an enterprising scribe to ask dude when's the last time he took a stand against "any form of racism, bigotry or hate". Ol Puka Luther King now

Okay, I’m willing to believe the “Puca Nacua is very stupid” explanation for all of this but again it is someone’s job to tell him “you probably shouldn’t go on a Nazi podcast”

Grateful for the "no one REALLY knows these pro athletes" posts. Disappointed none of them begin with "BREAKING:", just so Jon Heyman knows who to credit first

Career update: I started with Collectors this week as a writer on the PSA editorial team.

I've loved freelancing for PSA Magazine the past year-plus, and I'm absolutely thrilled to tell stories about the hobby and folks who love collecting on a full-time basis.

Ideas? Hit me up!

Obvs, it's the least consequential part of this story, but I've always wondered how the conversation goes when, say, Mookie Betts has that first chat with his agent about what he said, why it was awful and what the next steps will be. The sausage making of a manufactured apology must be something

I don't follow the NBA as much as I did 30 years ago, so I looked up the Suns retired numbers and absolutely shrieked, "WHAT" at Shawn Marion lol
I was at a Suns game last month and the amount of retired jerseys they had was almost disrespectful in the other direction

All I know is I'm glad there's never been an airing of Rickey Henderson's celebration of life from last February. Erstwhile #athletics SP Dave Stewart told a story about guns, wild boar and [REDACTED ETHNIC GROUP STEREOTYPES] that, uh...would've been a problem!

One of the occasional conversations I'm excited to have on my cockamamie podcast is on retired numbers. For instance, it's absurd that it took this long to retire KG's number in Minnesota (and, yes, I know he won championships elsewhere and there was drama...still ridiculous)
Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is reuniting with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Lynx in a new, all-encompassing role involving business, community efforts and content development, sources told ESPN. His long-awaited No. 21 Wolves jersey retirement will also happen in Minnesota.

Security guard in lobby at work is 6'5" and hit me with "I see you, little dude" this morning. Seething with rage at being considered short to someone. You'd think this would make me reconsider my disdain for you short kings, but I'm just gonna double up on the disrespect to feel better about myself

Heh. "Brought to you by BofA"
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.
