The UN Charter was drafted in 1945 by people who had learned the lessons that the aggression, isolationism and tariff barriers of the 20’s and 30’s had led the world into a conflagration. Article One makes it clear: threats of annexation are illegal. So are unilateral tariffs.

I love history and find WWII fascinating. I can read about it though, or listen to podcasts. I don’t need to experience it for myself, thanks.

The current head of US Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra is well advised to start mobilizing against H5N1 *now* before incoming RFK Jr hobbles the nation's ability to curtail a potential deadly pandemic.

And Canada... let's push that vaccine production/purchase button.

I've thought about this a lot since nuking my Twitter account in August, and I've come to two conclusions:

1) it is true that Bluesky is not a great place to follow breaking news as it happens

2) it does not affect my life at all to receive news a few hours later than people on twitter receive it

Having been back in Canada for a week the major issues in the country seem to be that a family dynasty is gouging people on groceries, trust in the government has basically collapsed, and if you're chronically ill your doctor may suggest that you kill yourself. Weed's cheap though

A new study in Helsinki daycares, Finland: air purifiers led to a 30% reduction in children's illnesses.

Healthier children = healthier staff and parents = big savings.

Bonus: the sound of the air purifier made it easier to get the kids to nap.

Same goes for Ottawa, unfortunately.
“We’re seeing an increase in kids being admitted with influenza, RSV and COVID — significantly up from last wk — and we anticipate it to continue to climb as we enter into the next few wks. We are unfortunately at the point where we are sometimes seeing kids in hallway beds just b/c we are so full.”
