The complaint is lengthy but worth reading. Our favorite line: "Throughout the story, the main character, a pink unicorn w/ eyelashes & other traditionally feminine features, is consistently referred to as a boy." The mom who filed the complaint asked for the book to be removed from the library.

Both male and female horses have eyelashes. Unicorns don't exist so this can't be scientifically verified. Valiant use of taxpayer money to micromanage the acceptable eyelash representation of fictional animals.
This is what "parents rights" looks like in TX: 1 mother decides what 8,292 students don't get access to read b/c she thinks boy unicorns shouldn't be pink or have eyelashes. *side note: the unicorn isn't pink, but he does have eyelashes. And to TX legislators: your bad laws are harming our kids.

1. Going to the Library in Smyrna or Murfreesboro, TN?

You might be greeted by an EMERGENCY CLOSURE sign.

Apparently they have detected the presence of "transgender books" and are quarantining them as if they were a dangerous plague.

Some Tennessee Libraries Shut Down For “Emergency Closure” Over Transgender Books
It is unclear how many other libraries have or may need to temporarily shut their doors in order to cull their children’s sections for gender-subversive content.

Last month, eight books were removed from Georgia's statewide reading book for students. It was teenagers who brought this censorship to the spotlight–even though it's not their job to clean up grown-up messes.

Get to know 3 of those teens here.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

If we want to stop the kidnappings and these agents require anonymity to commit these actions, then we must remove the masks.

So long as we allow masked law enforcement to terrorize people, we cannot be a democracy.
I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
Video on social media shows an immigration agent pulling a gun in Little Village and holding it to the side — which is not an appropriate or safe way to hold a gun. (Among other issues.)

a texas county banned 17 books, lost in court, appealed, and is now begging the supreme court to defend its right to fear literature. the land of the free sure hates reading.

how is this normal?

This point seems important: "Students should not carry the responsibility of overturning book bans. This isn’t a mess they’ve created; it’s one created by adults who fail to recognize children & teenagers are autonomous individuals with their own rights."
Last month, it was teenagers who got 8 books banned in a statewide Georgia reading bowl back into the competition. These literary heroes deserve recognition–get to meet three of these rad book-loving intellectual freedom champions.
