One thing social media has taught me (though I have definitely experienced it in other media too): a lot of people, even quite smart people, are worryingly bad at reading comprehension. For instance: many have trouble distinguishing between someone *describing* a thing and *advocating* that thing.

this speaks a bit to my argument about leaving twitter. it's not about ideological purity, it is about the fact that it's been turned into a political weapon for people who wish to use it to harm others. it's not the marketplace of ideas - you do not have to participate in this project! very simple!
It is genuinely unsafe for average people to use Twitter and speak freely. It appears to be this administration's primary intelligence gathering operation.

completely correct. all of the complaints about cities & public transit being dirty boil down to what we prioritize in our city budgets: police. Can you imagine how much better it would be if we paid custodians police officer wages to keep our shared public spaces clean?
I don’t want to quote the person asking about why the trains are so dirty though I largely agree with their assessment. But often the cleanliness of Japan is attributed to cultural norms & while that plays a part the answer is that in USA we chose to fund police instead of train custodians.
