Drivers get so mad when bike riders blow through traffic. IMO this is because people in $50,000 vehicles stuck in traffic watching a $100 bike blow past understand viscerally that they've been scammed. But they don't understand that it was by their car company, not the bike rider.
I had the brief, unpleasant experience of carpooling with someone who hates cyclists. It eventually emerged that she resented how they passed her when she was stuck in traffic and usually appeared to be enjoying their commutes. I suspect many of Mayor Andy's supporters feel similarly.
