In response to some of the comments:

If you agree with *all* the reporting of a news organisation that is both independent *and* non-partisan, then it's very unlikely to be independent and non-partisan.

This is true regardless of your politics.

Agreeing with all its reporting is the wrong test

Murphy and people like @vanhollen.senate.gov can buck their colleagues — pull a Rand Paul/Tuberville and force this bill to take all week.

Ok.

Well.

Seat Adelita Grijalva and let’s finally have a vote to release the Epstein Files.

Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.

She thinks we're stupid, that's the only explanation
Reporter: What do you say to your colleagues who say this isn't a fight, this is a capitulation?

Shaheen: We have a guaranteed vote by a guaranteed date…

Reporter: There is no guarantee that this will become law.

Shaheen: There was never a guarantee that it would be become law.

Tô bring things full circle to our endless hell. Before yesterday, I would have assumed Janet Mills would win the primary in Maine. Now I think Platner will because the primary is now a referendum on Chuck Schumer and being Schumer's chosen candidate is an electoral death sentence.

This is especially relevant now but the main reason for this is that Dem leaders don't seem to understand that the alternative for the Dem base isn't the GOP, it's the couch, and when Schumer makes decisions like he did, the couch seems very appealing
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

OH MY FUCKING GOD

First of all, why trust Thune at all? Second, WHO THE FUCK CARES IF THERE'S A VOTE THAT WILL FAIL AND NEVER GET TAKEN UP BY THE HOUSE EVEN IF IT DOES? SOMEONE FUCKING ASK DURBIN HOW HE EXPECTS THIS VOTE TO GO
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Also, Murphy and Van Hollen especially have been making the case that this is not just about the ACA but about lawlessness— and about moving Trump’s numbers. If there’s a chance to get a vote flip, isn’t that worth it?

Look, @chrismurphyct.bsky.social is great and I’m not going to let people slam him.
He fought. He can’t stop 4 of his colleagues from flipping, he doesn’t have that power.

And the delay isn’t without cost. It would extend the shutdown and probably not change much.
But that ”probably” matters.

That video above is great. But delaying the bill until Friday or Saturday would give voters time to pressure cavers like Rosen, King and Cortez Masto.

Really fighting at this point means being willing to piss off your colleagues.

Hearing now that @chrismurphyct.bsky.social will allow the fast-tracking of the capitulation CR.

If any senator objects, the bill passage could be delayed until Friday. But apparently zero Senators have objected to the scheduling motion on the hotline.
Zero!
I got back to my office after the vote last night and recorded this. There's no way to sugarcoat what happened. And my fear is that Trump gets stronger, not weaker, because of this acquiescence. I'm angry - like you. But I choose to keep fighting.

From street marches to court battles to the ballot box - we’ve challenged the power of this exceptionally unpopular president.

The lesson from each success we've had is that we need to ramp the political pressure up, always up, not back down, now more than ever.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

The organizers said the protests would be nonviolent & that all weapons, even those legally permitted, should not be brought to the events.”
