practically every historian I know thinks he knew exactly what he was doing, and that it was intended as a Nazi salute. But I also think he is actually enjoying seeing all the milquetoast whiney scared people defend him; he can smell their fear, and he likes it. And thats partly his reasoning.
Did Elon Musk *really* do a Nazi salute? It doesn't matter. He knew how it would be interpreted, and as with Trump, the intent is beside the point.
He did it for one reason: To show us that he could, and that there's nothing we can do to stop him.
