Retired, knitter, reader, volunteer, returning runner, walker (hate driving), and trying to keep fit for old age in the gym. Tracing family tree and trying to undertake a one place study of the street I grew up on, in London SE5.
Can anyone recommend a Star Wars hat knitting pattern, to fit a 11- 13 year old?
I'd prefer DK or Aran weight. Thanks all.

Can anyone recommend a good book on drafting patterns to fit? I'd like to do it for myself and also for the jumper I've promised my daughter. Thanks

Migrants didn't cut council funding. Migrants didn't cut NHS funding. Migrants didn't close youth centres. Migrants didn't sell off council houses. Migrants aren't filling our rivers with sewage.

Farage and co. will tell you to point the finger at migrants.

Don't fall for it.

#Fracking, let's start with some basic facts. There is a global gas market. It would not be "cheap gas".

Aside from the fact of it costing the Earth

Britain is about to start fighting over fracking again
Nigel Farage’s Reform UK think there’s hundreds of billions of pounds worth of shale gas ripe for exploiting. But are they ready for the fracking backlash?

Have been taking time this year to find out more about those in my tree who served in WW1 and WW2. "Men at War" by @luketurner.bsky.social has been excellent accompanying reading for the WW2 servicemen. Well worth a read.

Just back from a visit to Osborne House and am intrigued by the family life of Victoria, Albert and their children. Any recommendations for books on the subject? TIA

Haven't needed BT customer service for ages, & now I know why others complain. I've tried 3 times to change my email address (4 if you count trying myself through my account). The bloke on chat was busy selling me a new contract, 1st woman sent the wrong link, 2nd may call back Mon if I'm lucky 🤬

I've just found an ancestor involved in the D Day landings. Can anyone recommend a basic, idiots guide to the event? Thanks.

Next time you feel tempted to watch an AI generated funny video, think on this. AI uses a 'staggering amount' of electricity and a 'great deal' of water. Completely unsustainable.

This bag has been keeping the crow from his favourite perch since Sunday! It's ripped today though, so may not last much longer.

The best year yet for my peony. The colour is a bit deeper in real life; they open as very dark red and then fade to a deep pink.

First time at the Birmingam Museum and Art Gallery today. We were there to see the wonderful Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. But the building itself is fantastic 😍, here is a photo of the tearoom.

Could you answer this question for me please? A newspaper report from 1848 says that 10 sparrow nests were taken from 1 tree, it tallies the eggs and says that the material was used as pig litter. Were sparrows considered a nuisance? Or would this have been for egg collectors?

Just spent the whole day transcribing data from the 1921 census after I had an idea for a local blog. Found those in the town who gave him as their employer & wanted to finish the anaysis by adding those included on his return as live in servants etc. Can I find him or his house? No!! 😩

We’re excited to be managing The Charterhouse in Coventry, a monastery founded in 1381.

As a Carthusian monastery, The Charterhouse continued growing until the dissolution of monasteries by Henry VIII in the 1530's.
