Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Note this does not open a vacancy for the President to appoint a successor; as a Senior Judge (a semi-retired "emeritus" role) his successor in the position of regular US District Court judge was already appointed by Obama in 2013.

I need to move out by this time next week and I have failed to secure enough funds to do so. I still need roughly $2000 for deposits on the rental and utilities, and movers. Please consider helping and sharing.

Did you know gov shutdowns aren’t in the Constitution, any law, or Court ruling?
They exist because of a 1980 OLC memo—a lawyer’s opinion that everyone just went along with. Before 1980, funding gaps didn’t cause shutdowns.
What one memo created, another can undo. How the next D admin can undo it:

This is like my mom cracking herself up by standing outside the back door loudly telling the dog to “go pee” because it sounds like a rather serious insult in Chinese (狗屁).
Until one of her students walked up to find her venerable professor yelling 狗屁! out into the neighborhood.

Researchers created a roof paint (a “nano-engineered polymer coating”) “that not only reflects up to 97% of the sun’s rays, but also passively collects water”. And kept the interior of the building 6°C (~11°F) cooler. [newatlas.com]
This roof paint blocks 97% of sunlight and pulls water from the air
A roof paint that can cool your home and pull fresh water straight out of the air? It’s within reach, as scientists scale up production of a new kind of paint-like coating that shields roofing from the sun’s rays and harvests dew from its surface.

Not to sound Pollyanna-ish, but it is at least possible that we could come through this Trump madness even more fortified and galvanized as a nation than we were before.
We could put some work in analyzing and repairing the cracks in our system that he has exposed.

How Money is Born out of Public Spending and Dies by Taxes

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
