Here’s the single frame from the video where you can see clearly a masked Border Patrol agent with one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand outside the window spraying pepper spray randomly into the open window of a passing car.

In the sci-fi webfic series I'm reading, mantid-like alien allies of humanity picked up smoking from us because it masks their pheromones & allows them to ignore those instincts, to no apparent ill effect for them, revolutionizing their society. So there's a lot of cool scenes of giant bugs smoking.

Fascism also always fails to invent anything new; it only ever recycles old ideas & symbols, poorly. Of course humanity has already thought of all the easy answers, tried them out, & discredited the ones that don't work. But the fash don't know that, bcos their grasp of history is at most skin deep.

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Obama appointed his successor to the US District Court in 2013, when he vacated that seat to become a Senior Judge (a sort of semi-retired "emeritus" role), which is the position he's resigning from now.

Note this does not open a vacancy for the President to appoint a successor; as a Senior Judge (a semi-retired "emeritus" role) his successor in the position of regular US District Court judge was already appointed by Obama in 2013.

Did you know gov shutdowns aren’t in the Constitution, any law, or Court ruling?
They exist because of a 1980 OLC memo—a lawyer’s opinion that everyone just went along with. Before 1980, funding gaps didn’t cause shutdowns.
