In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

He escaped to the US - then ICE detained him.

ICE Holding Chinese Man Who Documented Uyghur Camps
Heng Guan is awaiting an immigration hearing on Monday that could lead to his removal from the U.S. and ultimately land him back in China, according to his lawyer and a New York-based activist group.

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.
The entrance to the 3-storey bike parking garage at Utrecht Central holding 12,500 bicycles. It’s free for the first 24 hours, linked to the station, and used by tens of thousands every day. This is what happens when a country treats bikes as real transport infrastructure, not an afterthought.

Our ingrained idea that popular culture primarily means youth culture is a weird epiphenomenon of the fact that young people are the demographic most easily manipulated by advertising and is bad for almost everyone
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

"You can't policy your way out of a propaganda problem" is such a good line.

Policy matters, but how you communicate stuff matters more right now.
I'm kind of shocked that anyone is still proposing technocratic solutions to the "debate" over immigration. Even if this were a good idea (and it is not), Republican elites and media will never tell their base about it. You can't policy your way out of a propaganda problem!
