It’s always bothered me that there’s no built-in way to assert in Blueprints... While debugging the Blueprint VM for an unrelated issue, I came up with a simple implementation that triggers a breakpoint.

Would anyone else be interested in using this as a plugin?

#unreal #uetips If you haven't yet heard of the `-Log -NewConsole`, it's one of my favorite UE5 additions.

You can filter, exec commands, even had a convenience `Log CHECKPOINT#` button.

But the awesome thing is, it doesn't hang with the game/engine, and if you close it, your instance also closes

Quick and dirty deformable snow system using UE5.4 Nanite Tessellation! Incredibly powerful—I was able to create this little proof of concept in no time at all. Excited to see where Nanite Tessellation will be in a few months; still needs some optimization to be production-ready! #ue5 #snow #nanite

One of the most overlooked features in Unreal 5.5 is Instanced Actors. It runs Mass, an entity component system, under the hood until you run a trace or overlap against the entity. Unreal invisibly hydrates the entity into an actor and returns a reference as if it had always been an actor. #UETips

I really doubt that this was made using AI.. but what if it was? It looks as awesome as the rest of the show! :)

This would be a cool little mat for blockouts. Wonder if we can make it work for non-cubes a well?.. :)
I made a shader that rounds the normals on the edges of a standard cube, so I got carried away and made this with it...

Who said anything about splash art? I’m getting a little tired of seeing these posts.

If you actually read the job requirements, it looks more like a pipeline/tools role.

Artists and designers will only be more and more important. GenAI is just a fancy auto-correct; not a replacement for a writer.
I'm so unbelievably disappointed and angry at seeing this: www.riotgames.com/en/work-with...

Two rounds of layoffs that targeted artists and now we're going to be stable diffusion splash arts!!!

Always wondered why my normal maps stopped working whenever I put on sunglasses…
Wassup folks, coming at you with another gamedev tip.

"Why are normal maps blue?"

Normal maps are blue because, within the visible spectrum of light, blue is closest to ultaviolets (UVs) light, and your UVs go on top of your normal map (purples) so it makes sense they're next to each other

They moved them to their new service Fab, and made them free to grab until the end of 2024. once you add them to your account you own them under a personal license for the life of your account.

Still kinda blows about Quixel but at least they made them available freely till the end of the year.
Hey #3D artists! Epic recently moved all the Quixel megascans over to their new service FAB. You have until 2024 to either make or log into your epic account and claim them for free, after which they become paid assets.
