We are in new territory with Trump’s latest trade letter, threatening a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1
—The US runs a rare trade surplus with Brazil, so there’s no deficit to fix
—Trump says these duties are explicitly over political concerns, not economic ones

Gather 'round, kids. Let me tell you the tale of how a simple misunderstanding of economics led someone to tax Americans and destabilize the global economy—with great confidence and zero homework.

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

hi @maddow.msnbc.com a segment on this "flush out the bots" move might be cool
Easiest click farm bot and troll blocklist ever is to say something positive and include "Hakeem Jeffries". The bots scan for it and autoreply. It was hilarious when I put up a post about Hakeem Jeffries and deleted it for typos. Didn't have a chance to repost but the bots were triggered....

And the J6 pardons were meant not only to provide credibility to this wink and nod, but to provide human resources
As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

When does sanewashing cross over into insane, in its own right?
CNN is hopelessly broken.

1. This "expansion" would require military invasions of several allies in violation of international law.
2. It would violate several treaties.
3. The Louisiana Purchase was the sale of land by a colonial power (France). These are sovereign nations.
