Look at the people who've been lauded as paragons of political brilliance by the SW1 commentariat.

So many have crashed and burned spectacularly. Often proving in the process that they are in fact the biggest fools and charlatans going.
The "Dominic Cummings is a genius" types were worse than Dominic Cummings because they enabled Dominic Cummings.

The "Boris Johnson is a genius" types were worse than Boris Johnson because they enabled Boris Johnson.

Now go away and write that out a thousand times.

A lot of people seem to struggle with the simple reality that Labour government comms are not part of some grand game of 4D chess they are playing. They are just bad. I mean, really, really bad.

The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.

Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power.

Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.

But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

Remember this.

What an incredibly moronic rule for a business to introduce.

Even Humphrey Smith would baulk at that one!

The thing "International Men's Day" teaches you is how many people in positions of authority automatically assume that all men are mentally ill and / or suicidal!
Today is International Mens day when all those men who moan about international Women's day get to do their thing.

It's not a good thing that traffic in #Rotherham is so dependent on one road.

All it takes is one incident on Centenary Way and the whole town comes to a standstill

Britain needs more tourism, not less.

I'm not convinced that this won't be used to introduce tourist taxes in places that don't get the influx of tourists needed to make these levies worthwhile.

"Blue Labour" has a heavily romanticised idea of the working class that really doesn't have much to do with actual working folk in 2025.

Which leads them to lash out with nonsensical stuff about "lanyardism" whenever their bubble gets burst.
why do I emphasize the Manchester-ness of this? because Blue Labour 'thinkers' try to portray themselves as authentic representatives of a neglected Northern working class. But while there's plenty of racism in the North, as anywhere else, there's also a long history of integration and anti-racism.

Whatever flaws Kier Starmer has, #Labour aren't going to stop the rot by simply getting rid of him as leader.

They have to look deeper, to what sort of vision and purpose they have for running the country in the first place!

Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

Can politicians please give the cringeworthy AI nonsense a swerve? All it does is make you look like an even bigger dingleberry.

Which is quite something in the case of Mayor Oliver Coppard! 🤣

Maybe it would help the government (and everyone else outside of the SW1 commentariat) if members of the government stopped leaking everything they discuss in private?
There is a small subset of pro-Starmer ultras on here who either genuinely don’t understand that budget stories *are directly briefed out by the Treasury, with permission* or pretend not to know that. And so they claim the plans never existed, haven’t changed, etc. It is maddening, and dumb as fuck.

I'm not sure I can agree with @thatginamiller.bsky.social on this one.

It's probably for the best that the First Lord of the Treasury has been leading the way for working from home since 1732!

Much of the "Anglo-Saxon" model of Liberalism came over to Britain from the Netherlands with the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

A hugely important event that us Liberals don't like to consider these days as we find the religious sectarianism at the heart of the Glorious Revolution to be problematic.
My weird personal fascination with Dutch history, and in particular with the "Dutch Golden age" comes from the fact that I believe the central role the Dutch played in shaping modern liberalism is neglected, and not taught widely enough.
