This is why I'm concerned about the proposed ban on social media for under 16s. Social media is clearly an issue more broadly and needs an approach that is more nuanced.
This was a minor story on London news this morning - but suspect is a real cautionary (and alarming) tale of an older man getting radicalised online.

Cllr Lesley McLean and I have written to the Key Medical Practice asking them to reconsider their decision to close routine medical appointments for a month from 26th January, and to the Integrated Care Board to ask them to intervene to protect patients' access to essential care.

Absolutely gobsmacked by this story. These improvements are badly needed - why would you turn down funds on the table? And keeping it secret. The Clarion are being far too kind saying there are no villains here - the villains are the people who kept the issue secret so no solution could be found!
🚨 CLARION EXCLUSIVE 🚨

£10m of Government funding for Oxford was sent back. Could it have paid for the cancelled Dutch-style cycleway on Woodstock Road?

In a deep dive, we ask why a Government grant was returned, and if it could have been spent elsewhere in Oxford.

There's always a local angle 😂
Oxford graduate Nigella Lawson has been confirmed as new host of TV's Great British Bake Off. While studying at LMH, she was allegedly approached by her tutor to join MI5, but was advised against it by her father Nigel Lawson (later Chancellor of the Exchequer).

Really pleased by this! Thanks to @garethepps.bsky.social for helping me raise it and @neilmfawcett.bsky.social for making it happen. It's a shame because old twitter was great but it's not coming back, and we couldn't stay complicit in the industrial-scale abuse of women and girls it now pumps out.

Western countries are hitting refugees twice: they are making it harder to claim asylum *and* they are cutting aid to troubled regions.

Has to be done carefully but this is potentially quite an elegant way to handle the issue

So we need to increase defence spending to develop a fully- independent nuclear deterrent, disentangle from US procurement and reinforce alliances with the rest of NATO, right?

The feature I'd love to see is a change to how replies display so that instead of seeing an entire thread you can open a tweet and just see the replies to that tweet (like on twitter)
it's kind of funny that you can slowly see this site a/b test its way into being a more usable version of pre-musk twitter

Leaving it up to councils is the right approach IMV but would be good to see a ban in most of Oxfordshire. As well as blocking pedestrians (especially wheelchair users and buggies), pavement parking destroys the pavement which then either looks unsightly or costs £££ to fix
“Pavements are for pedestrians, not vehicles,” says Oxfordshire County Council’s Cllr Andrew Gant as the Government introduces new rules on pavement parking where councils will be allowed to introduce and enforce a ban: “We welcome the opportunity to apply for the powers to enforce this.”
