In my town it’s mostly the choir director ran away with the pastor that busts up the churches.
I had extended family I used to see every week that I didn't speak to for a decade after my church split over whether members could own a VCR. And we all lived in the same very small town.
Folks, if you didn’t grow up in a low-church American evangelical/fundamentalist baptist or Bible church you have no idea how easy it is for factions to split a church, excommunicate each other, and how that informs the coming schism in Republican politics.

I think Americans are realizing that democracy is a participation sport, and the the government is ours if we want it to be. I feel like we got complacent and hoped some other third party would do the work for us. Seems like we have to learn that lesson every generation.
