Study says Canada is too lax on civilian oversight of the military
Canada maintains a low level of civilian oversight of the military due to Parliament’s rigid party discipline, according to a new book that compares it with fourteen other democracies.

one reason "great power competition" is a bad description of the emerging order is that an interlinked global kleptocracy does not care about national interests or rivalries
Extraordinary WSJ reporting today that unveils the extent to which Trump, Witkoff, Kushner and US business executives are salivating over business deals with Russia while Putin’s forces kidnap Ukranian children and bomb civilians in their apartments.

This corruption probe has a pretty long tail. There's probably more to come.

But the upside is that Ukraine still has a functioning anti-corruption squad, they're being allowed to do this work, and the corruption seems to be exactly the kind of war profiteering that every country at war faces.

Vietnamese food has a concept I don't often see in western cuisine - "ngán."
It's translated as being bored but applies when your palate is dulled by the sameness in texture, taste.
We want our food to hit different notes. A bánh mì is simultaneously soft and crunchy, spicy and cool, fatty and sour.

The problem with this article is that it assumes that the Canadian terrorism listing process hasn't been politicized to the point of irrelevance. It assumes process, deliberation, and rationality. I'm not sure any of that is true anymore.

Why hasn’t Canada declared Terrorgram a terrorist organization?
Australia, the U.S. and U.K. have labelled Terrorgram a terrorist group, and two men in Canada were recently convicted of spreading its propaganda

Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout
