Here's a thread about how trans people can approach remaining informed of the news in a way that prioritizes pragmatism, self-care, and building resistance.

It's based on what I'm doing personally. So, fyi, I'm more anxious than usual, but holding up substantially.

Everyone in my hometown uses the right name and pronouns with me without issue and congratulated me when I came out, but some still post brain-rotted transphobic memes on Facebook. They know me, so they figure I have legit reasons to do this. They will not, however, extrapolate outward from there.

1. The state department has removed transgender people from its website and just reads "LGB Travelers," as reported by a number of journalists.

However, on further investigation, it is also removing trans-specific directions for individual countries.

State Department Travel Safety Website Changes "LGBTQI+ Travelers" to "LGB Travelers"
The change is an attempt to insert a divide in the LGBTQIA+ community by the Trump administration, and to erase transgender people from any consideration or recognition.

Not my beat, but Trump just issued an executive order to potentially deport non-citizens attending school/university who are against atrocities committed in Gaza by Israel.

Alright all - I'm stepping away for this evening. I'll be back in later tonight to see if there's any more updates.

Stay safe, if you're trans, stay with us, we are not giving up.

And most of all... these EOs are not law, they are not passed by congress, do NOT comply.

On day one Trump's EO said we were harmful to kids. On day two, it said we were dishonorable and disloyal. On day three, it said we were unAmerican.

Transgender people have been a part of this country for centuries.

We are not going anywhere.

Do not comply with these EOs, they are not law.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Ok. I’m a librarian. I recommend books for a living. I believe in reading as a destressor and a means of processing

Also, while most passive and solitary activities aren’t resistance, reading IS. So here’s a list I’ll pin to my feed and add to as I get time/ memory jogs/ smth becomes relevant

This thread is a real good example of the joys of creation and also how it is absolute horseshit that sometimes our stupid drafts are, like, ten steps ahead of us.
Say a locksmith comes to a character's house to open a locked door in your novel. Guess what? Unless that person figures into the novel later, or the interaction has some other meaning, just cut to the effin' door being open. No one gives a flying f*ck about the locksmith in this context.

writers should read. I think literacy ought to be a requirement for the job, and the fact that this is divisive among modern writers makes me want to flense the skin from my body

the fatal flaw of people going "Tamsyn Muir started off with Homestuck Fanfic and now she's a bestseller" is that if you read her work, she's obviously read Coleridge, Wilde, Shakespeare, and the Bible, and gleaned from it expressions of love and tragedy that simply aren't in your wattpad fanfics.

you absolutely should read the classics because they've endured through history for a reason and you ought to know how people who hadn't had their brains rotted by smart phones and internet thought and loved and worked. It will make you more interesting as a writer.
