Enjoying all the political reporters who have today learned what ILR is and who are straining unsuccessfully remember the lettering in their write ups. Have seen "ILF" and "IRL" so far. Our fourth estate is in safe hands!

Who cares about people's lives when the right of retired teachers and public affairs managers to imagine they're just like Tonypandy miners is under threat

Just thinking back to when Labour got in and people were talking about how being in government lets you set the agenda, terms of debate etc and how this would change discourse on what is possible etc. Anyway they've had a year and none of that has happened because they're so abjectly useless. Bad.

I shouldn't be surprised at this stage, still less annoyed. And yet!

The people who made this claim were projecting their dislike of seeing views that contradicted their own (and that they came from people who lacked visible credentials eg they weren't a journo, "polling commentator" etc). Well they have their wish now and I'm sure they're enjoying themselves.
As I said before, it's extremely telling how many people began to think twitter is real life once the leftists and liberals left it.
This is a great piece - anti-prejudice norms matter. Making it career ending to say racist things was a valuable social development. One of Musk’s most insidious effects is corroding this as politicians on the right mistake the voice of DavePatriot789 for the voice of a kingdom.

If enacted in the terms suggested, this policy would leave children, disabled people, pensioners and anyone unfortunate enough to lose their job (including for being “foreign”, since Reform will also have torn up employment protections) destitute and on the streets

Note how we’ve moved from concerns about people arriving irregularly in small boats to wrecking the lives of people who are by definition here entirely lawfully
Should really say "Farage plans to tear up the Brexit deal he supported" since it would requiring reneging on the Withdrawal Agreement (most "foreign nationals" claiming benefits are EU citizens with settled status)

"Minibreak with mates" 💀💀💀
Maybe - just a crazy idea, but bear with me for a moment! - the reason why the Lib Dems should not “get serious“ is that the UK’s most important media organisation covers politics in babytalk so much of the time?

Reshuffle already looking even more (1) hubristic than it did at the time (2) like a relic of a failed strategy but now they're stuck with it. Funny.

My view is they're trying to fix the wrong problem: They focussed on supply-side planning reforms that will be important over the longer-term but appear to not realise that what we are actually facing is a more immediate crisis in demand at current prices and rates.

MHCLG estimating that "196,500 net additional homes have been delivered in England between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025".
The numbers are heading in the wrong direction for the government to get anywhere near their 1.5m target and they'll be lucky to hit 1m at this rate.

They should stop putting news on the BBC music stations imo. Just as a matter of self interest as it probably reduces consent for the licence fee to hear that shit.
The main story on BBC 6 Music News this morning is that a ‘boat carrying migrants is on its way to France’

Delivered in the same upbeat tone as England winning the women’s Euros.

The migration ‘debate’ in this country is unmoored from reality, and the media-political complex is feeding it
