The real reason we can’t have nice things is that we don’t want them
Rural people are a sort of Noble Savage. Distant and pure, incapable of agency, they can’t be judged or helped.
It really is amazing how much of political punditry, *especially* elite outfits in NYC and Washington, still embrace this bizarre idea that rural spaces represent the "Real America" while metropolitan areas, where most (presumably real) Americans actually live, should be held in contempt.
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats

At my gym today, I overheard a trainer and her client briefly debating about ICE. Trainer was maybe in her 30s, client in her 80s. Trainer said she had a friend who lived here legally but was warned by her lawyer she could still be deported. Client scoffed at this, “you’re getting bad info”

I don’t understand how anyone could hear this and not just think “what a weird loser”
Fuentes, yesterday: “Our #1 political enemy is women because women constrain everything, every conversation, every man, everything. They have to be imprisoned. They are the ones that are hurting the fertility rate. They're the ones making us sympathetic to poor people, which are also brown people.”
Nick Fuentes: “The number one political enemy in America is women. … They have to be imprisoned.”

The CDC estimated that the '24-'25 US flu season had 47-82 million cases, 21-37 million flu medical visits, 610,000-1,300,000 flu hospitalizations, and 27,000-130,000 flu deaths. This guy, like, personally decided to stop anyone from fixing that.

Tariffs have real consequences for hundreds of millions of Americans and this guy is boasting about how he sets them based on perceived slights from foreign officials he doesn’t remember.
Trump: "So I put on a 30% tariff, which is very low. I got an emergency call from I believe the prime minister of Switzerland. She was very aggressive ... I didn't really like the way she talked to us, so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39%."

These are Very Serious People doing very serious things

(also, are these the same people always complaining about cancel culture? I think they are)
Sure, Republicans lie, but I can't get over how ludicrous their stated positions are.

In this clip, if you take what he says at face value ("still investigating... from what we have seen... if it is true"), House Republicans are unsure how to confirm the lyrics to a song because it was in Spanish.
Rep Mark Alford (R-MO) says House Rs are "investigating" Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show & talking with FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr. Alford says he didn't watch the whole thing & also doesn't know Spanish but suspects it might have been "much worse than the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction"

Make paeans to American pluralism corny and anodyne again
Remember when "America has many groups of people in it and that's good and makes us strong" was an uncontroversial - even cliched - viewpoint that was universally endorsed across the political spectrum?

We can go back! We just have to get rid of the tiny handful of bitter, angry men in the way.

Make crackpots charming, esoteric, and harmless again
Crank convergence is such a waste of the infinite potential of the human spirit; Naomi Wolf shouldn't be running third-tier Stop the Steal derivatives, she should be chronicling how the Catholic Church suppressed the memory of the Primordial Feminine Goddess and trying to translate Linear A.
Bill Ackman's fund, Pershing Square, manages 18 billion dollars for wealthy clients, billions of it for the Harvard Endowment

Anyways here he is uncritically eating up conspiracy slop from Naomi Wolf about stolen NYC elections

Also DOJ: there are too many cases, it’s impossible

The assumption of normalcy I’ve been blithely violating has people filing for restraining orders already covered by the assumption
JUST IN: Judge Tostrud lifts restraining order against Trump administraiton, concluding they're unlikely to destroy or alter evidence related to the Pretti shooting -- though he says the record is "not one-sided." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

On the one hand: holy fuck, Van Gogh is alive? That’s wild! How did they do that?

On the other: he’s into some weird stuff now

Dems really need to pound harder on what a whiny, insecure, petty loser Trump is. They tell us his policies are bad and lawless, which is true, but the framing still presumes he's trying to accomplish something. That it’s all about his ego is different, and that petulance is deeply unlikable

Mike Johnson: I refuse to support the the demand that ICE agents wear only chaps in public. It’s undignified and will reduce their effectiveness. The dems have gone too far!
Mike Johnson always falsely states proposals he wants to bat down. No one has proposed that ICE agents wear their addresses. The proposal is that dress and act exactly as they did from the founding of the agency until Stephen Miller decided to give it a makeover

if that tweet had been written by a rando instead of a deranged fascist imp, I’d have nodded along in agreement. This psycho thinks “land of opportunity“ is a pejorative
That's correct. Including the Founders.

Hard to overstate how fucked up it is that literal Native Americans need to carry paperwork to prove they’re allowed in this country or risk being thrown into deportation jail
They were able to get them released.

Retaliating by indicting Trump as the leader of the Good Ol Boy's Club
The Trump admin indicted Maduro for leading a drug cartel, labeled it a terrorist organization, and it apparently never even existed? What can we trust at this point?

Weird to me that guys like this live here, surrounded by people like me. They must hate it!
I allege that Garrett Michael Berna, a licensed mental health counselor out of West Brookfield MA & practicing in Newton MA (lic. #LMHC10304), is dead certainly a member of Patriot Front and the New England Active Club. He's likely been active with both organizations since April 2024, if not before.

fwiw it's not hard to craft a line that nods to kitchen table issues but still captures some urgency. "you put this asshole in office to make your life easier but all he's done is cut taxes for his rich buddies, kidnapped your neighbors and sent the military to tell you to shut up when you complain"

I’m not an NYC voter, but if I were, I’d have voted for Mamdani, even though I’m much closer to center. We ask lefties to hold their noses and vote for blue candidates all the time. Cuomo was an unreasonable candidate and required us libs to do the same for Mamdani
I'm slightly more moderate than most Dems, but that last part is why Cuomo had to be stopped. I'd much rather someone a bit to my left won than that someone ideologically closer to me who's just temperamentally and ethically bad for the job. Happily, a lot of people agreed.

The optimal amount of immigration enforcement is not zero, but zero would be a lot better than we have now
June 21, 2025 at 7:17 AM
I know nothing, but I’m guessing “arrest people as they leave immigration court” isn’t some evil genius plan to sow fear, but a combination of pressure to deliver numbers and laughable controls. Results in individual squads going after easy targets, indifferent to how it will eventually pan out.
In San Antonio today, plainclothes ICE officers (not masked this time) arrested, handcuffed, and zip-tied a family of five (yes, ALL of them, including the little children) coming out of their immigration court hearing — which ICE had just had dismissed.

Trump is probably relieved the tariffs are getting blocked by the courts. Lets him bail out of a losing position he can’t otherwise walk away from without embarrassment. AND he gets to whine about it.

But I’m happy about it too!
