Game developer, hobbyist bodybuilder, lover of werewolves.
A Dragon Age fan will deadass tell me it's my fault for not predicting the ratio of STR to CON needed to equip late game armor that makes the game playable...

...and someone else will tell me my RPG didn't sell bc players didn't understand it (they didn't read a size 72pt, bolded instruction)

The amount of stupidly needless and needlessly stupid applications of this dumbass technology is legitimately impressive, like they’re TRYING to be terrible. It’s possible that sometimes something actually helpful is stumbled upon and that person gets yelled at

Honestly God bless Steam's Discovery Queue. It doesn't do nearly enough but it's still the single best tool for helping Audiences find Their Games and vice versa.

"This game is an instant classic because you're left to figure out how to do everything with no hand-holding"

vs

"No one played your game because they couldn't discover what was interesting about it in 2 mins"

Outside of popularity contests, oversaturation has devalued videogames into negatives
The famous meme, "We tell you how a mechanic works five times because playtesters ignored the tutorial the first four times."

Gamers do not look up, but blame devs for that.
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

"the roguelike might give us space to negotiate how we are subjected the vicissitudes of reality's bad fortune. A simulated ground for our contemptible existence".

So tired of Ludonarrative being manipulatively added to difficulty discourse.

The duality of being a gamer/developer:

1. Every criticism or suggestion I have with a game I play is wrong, the developers have a specific vision and it's just not for me.

2. Every design choice I make for my own game is wrong and players all know better than me how the game I should make it.

Gratitude is the only valid response to news that that game you're excited about got delayed.

Signed, someone who started Cyberpunk in April and is still only halfway through and really wants to play one of the dozen summer/fall releases I've been excited about.

Why yes, I do philosophize quite a lot. It's how I cope with being utterly incapable of creating anything on my own. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go reassure myself how right about everything I am.
