"$20 each for five Siri-enabled devices"

so people got spied on without their consent by a private company and their reward is, at most, a crisp C-note. great country we've got here.
"The only clue that users seemingly had of Siri's alleged spying was eerily accurate targeted ads that appeared after they had just been talking about specific items like Air Jordans or brands like Olive Garden"
Siri “unintentionally” recorded private convos; Apple agrees to pay $95M
Apple users may get $20 each for up to five Siri-enabled devices.

some folks think I'm being hyperbolic or alarmist when I say that federal consumer protection is effectively now illegal under our corrupt Supreme Court, but I'm not kidding

And net neutrality will be far from the only casualty. It's going to get very, very, very ugly kids

i think people are downplaying the harm of the Carter administration for the same reason Oppenheimer is known as the guy who REGRETTED building the bomb; knowing that just SOME of our oppressors are human enough to feel guilty is the most comfort we can receive from them while under the systems boot

i've just learned that humans are just about the sweatiest animals that we know of. this means challenging aliens to a game of basketball, a particularly sweat-inducing game, is tactically sound, since aliens would *likely* overheat way before humans would. this is my PhD thesis about space jam

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE

HARD❌

Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more.

EASY✅
House was old and fucked!
THE BELL JAR

HARD ❌

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York

EASY ✅

That summer was sizzling, and so were the Rosenbergs

All this just so you can generate ugly weird looking pictures of the shopkeeper in your DnD game. What a steal!
Including the interview with @katecrawford.bsky.social - and the terrific idea of AI as a “metabolic technology”

Wow. In all the years of running Techdirt I never once thought to put together an after-the-fact "hypothetical portfolio" that out performs a sensible portfolio and tried to make it seem like young men were missing out by not betting on shitcoins.

I must not be good at journalism.

Using AI to write your games does two things to me:

+ It disrespects the necessary processes of design
+ It cheapens your own abilities.

There is no quick and easy way to design the nuts and bolts of your game. There is no way of getting good beyond constant experimentation and failure.
I’m going to take this a step further. If you use AI for your ttrpgs at all, I think you need to learn how to get good. You need ChatGPT to make you an adventure? Maybe learn how to get good. I think you might suck at running games and you should just improve.
If you post A.I. "art," don't follow me.

By choosing to use AI art, AI writing, AI anything in your product, you are sending this signal to me: "I have zero confidence in my ability to try hard and create anything, so I would rather steal the work of others and put my name on it."

Your AI works have no soul, and show no grit.
