I realize the main plot of American Canto is how a journalist detonated her career in service of an infatuation but the actual consequence of those decisions will be felt in babies that die from Hepatitis because RFK Jr wants them to die & is refusing to use the state to mandate lifesaving medicine.

drive me insane that people are like "oh you should only get medicaid if you work." seems like it'd be more efficient to get their employers to pay for their health insurance in that scenario but what do i know!!!!
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

SNAP assistance should be enough to cover 2000 calories a day of HEALTHY food PER PERSON. Yes I want the government to make sure everyone has wholesome, tasty, filling meals. The problem isn't that people need assistance with food, it's that the assistance is a freaking joke.

agreed and I also think anti-spoiler backlash has far exceeded its banks in general! “if it’s good enough, spoilers won‘t ruin it for you anyway” NO I want to experience the story at the intended pace and construct my own relationship with the narrative!!!
Back-cover-of-the-book text shouldn’t be allowed to spoil anything that happens in the second half of the book. Authors worked hard to put that stuff in that order!
