We waste so much energy holding their feet to the fire to keep them from co-signing our deaths and the destruction of this nation. Imagine if they were our allies and freed up all of that bandwidth to fight the fascists and also spared us so much heartache.

I grew up in the local underground/punk scene and was a fan of Against Me! so I heard about Laura Jane Grace transitioning and thought "oh okay, that's neat I guess; good for her, but it also doesn't really seem like my business". I was shocked to learn that others found it controversial.

The federal government has historically been the sole force making Alabama more humane. Civil rights, yes, but also anti-poverty programs and -- critically -- direct school funding in the 1960s, which narrowed (but did not close) the chasms dividing white student funding and Black student funding.
