Open AI doesn't want to be transparent about what's in their datasets - this bill would force them. If you're pro AI regulation (esp if you're in Bay Area), please show up and offer your support for this bill! If you can't make it, help spread the word!

I emailed my representative yesterday expressing concerns about this set of bills and got a call back back that was incredibly thoughtful, thanking me for reaching out and reiterating its on my reps radar and she appreciated me sharing my opinion

Keep calling and messaging your reps!
Some potential good news out of yesterday's theatrical House hearing on internet censorship bills. A pre-emption provision has even KOSA supporters like NCOSE abandoning the House version.

With ten days to go, there seems to be little appetite for KOSA or age-verification bills in general.

Really great coverage from @wired.com about our week of action against online ID verification and how these bills are setting a dangerous precedent by making the internet more exploitative rather than safer.

Online age verification is a tempting idea. I'm a dad, I get it, but what's being proposed isn't just an ID check, it's a list of your kid's faces and data. A list in the hands of increasingly totalitarian governments, tech companies, and dysfunctional AI.

It's not protection, it's surveillance.
🚨 EVERYONE PLEASE RESKEET THIS FOR VISIBILITY!!! 🚨

A big coalition of LGBTQ+, abortion access, and human rights groups led by @fightforthefuture.org are organizing a WEEK OF ACTION this week against online ID checks, aka "age verification" laws.

Funny when it's the other way around. These age verification rules/bills are still bad in any case, and they don't protect anyone. They shred our freedom of speech, invade our privacy, and puts our data at risk! #stopageverification #stoponlineidchecks

I feel it's worth noting that in tuesday's meeting in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce about a shitton of "protect the children!" internet bills, committee members advocated for leaving carve outs in their various censorship/surveillance bills for advertisers to keep advertising at kids
The Horses situation has brought this Epic Games policy to my attention and it might be the most embarassing exception put to print
