Great to see someone discuss deep focus and immersion, as well as critique the tendency to consider shallow focus as "cinematic". Other things too. Great video essay.

Related, I once went to a special screening of Tarkovsky's Stalker, one of my favourite movies, with a live performance by Lisa Gerrard & Dead Can Dance.
The music was exquisite, but it did not marry with the movie at all. I found myself detaching from the screen and daydreaming to the music.

Went to see Back to the Future scored live by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra last night.
Amazing but weird: after a while I stopped noticing the score was being played before me.

Which fictional creature/villain traumatized you as a kid?
Traumatized is a silly word, but the Gmork really got under my skin. Not just because he's bloody scary looking, but also because some part of me wondered if I might have allied myself with the Nothing too.
