Saw a dead yellow jacket on oak bark this evening, noticed movement and looked closer, and there were little Paratemnoides pseudoscorpions grabby hands poking out of the shadows. Seems they brought home a Big Snack to share with the community (Paratemnoides are social pseudoscorpions 🤎) 🧪

Sorry spider haters, but this was just the most beautiful beast & I knew (nearly everyone) would need to see it 😉. It sat frozen, up on its toes, on the edge of Leeman (WA) salt lake while I took pics. Unfortunately it was too big (body length 1.4cm) for my lens. #spider #Lycosidae #Tetralycosa

First flying duck (Caleana major - large duck orchid) of the spring near Genoa, East Gippsland, VIC. Only a few scattered plants out in flower here but quite a few more of these very distinctive orchids in bud nearby - despite the recent dry conditions. #orchids #inthefield #ozplants

Hard agree with Doctor Dave--this is one of Australia's best birds. It's worth your time to try find them, especially the blingy males.
Time for another #AwesomeBirds #WildOz edition. This distinctive jobbie is found throughout mainland Australia, but rarely sits still. Often in pairs, these dim sim sized champions can be tricky to spot, but once you key in on their sharp notes, you’ll notice them all over.

Look at the birds that have been pushed out contention for the Australian Bird of the Year! Every one is magnificent. Every one was worth voting for. (Also I think the sunbird has already been split and ours is Sahul Sunbird.)
