I’ve been saying for years that it should be illegal to email me
Conducting tasks while receiving e-mails and phone calls reduces a worker’s IQ by about ten points relative to working in uninterrupted quiet. That is equivalent to losing a night’s sleep, and twice as debilitating as using marijuana.
Are digital distractions harming labour productivity?
The evidence is mixed; it seems clear, however, that they are making us unhappier

Truly, one of the great labor movies, and one of the most cathartic, because it's about a working man who gets exploited and goes on a rampage

E-Bikes have turned out to be hugely liberatory for teenagers trapped in car-oriented suburbia here in San Diego, so of course there's a moral panic about them and an effort to stamp them out in places (like Chula Vista) with conservative government
South County Report: Chula Vista to E-Bikes: Slow Your Roll

Chula Vista has enacted strict e-bike regulations in response to community concerns over safety involving children riding high-powered bikes. New rules, effective next month, prohibit riders u…

Big numbers. Bc of much less severe disease than in adults, authorities have gambled that COVID/long COVID in kids is of little concern. There's much evidence now to suggest that's wrong. There's a clear path to better protect kids. We should take it.

The reason bicyclists look at drivers is we have to to tell if they can see us before doing basic shit like making a turn. The field of view on a bike is not the same as in a car we can see more and react faster. Which is why I was able to see a driver eating a halal cart meal while driving poorly
I wonder who's watching the road for them as they stare wistfully into the cars they're passing. Seems like they're s not paying much attention to the road either.
The great thing about biking many hours per week is that you get to look in people's windows and see absolutely egregious levels of phone usage. If their windows are down, I love yelling at them, and then they look up from their phone all startled like, "Oh, am I supposed to be paying attention???"

E-bikes for everyone: 3 NZ trials show people will make the switch – with the right support
These pilot schemes suggest e-bikes can be popular even in non-riding communities. But easy access, infrastructure and local organisation are all vital.
